Not another Chocolate Stout!

I am still drinking my first attempt at a German beer. I'm not quite there, but I am very encouraged with it being my first try. It is very drinkable. The pros that do them here for the ones that I really like use the good yeast strains and the 6-8 week lagering. I have had a few conversations at a couple of those places. The ones I went apeshit over were lagered for 8 weeks.
If you ever get to Tampa, there us a brewery called Barriehaus about a block from the Ybor Centro parking garage. German lagers are about 80% of the taplist, and they are damn good.
I dont generally make it down that far, but i will certainly hit them up if im down there.

traditional yeast will usually make the best traditional beer lol. Nova lager makes...lager or close to lager? I bet they have big horizontal brites for lagering beers that long, probably stacked!

I cap the mash with dehusked carafa I for my Black IPA, brings the color and flavor, without the body, the dehusked version reduces the roast bite of the dark malt as well.
Never thought to cap the mash in a Porter, seems like you would miss out on the intended effects
Gotcha. The dehusked crafa 1 sounds kinda like black prinz from briess which i have used alot of lately!

First tube and mashing in the second tube! I love brewing stouts! I'll post more pictures as my day rolls on! Lemme know if you want to see something specific!

What is your batch size with that system?
80 gals preboil 76 gallons to the fermenter and I generally get 4 full 1/2s of finished beer!

Technically this is a 2HL brewhouse but that builds in a stupid safety margin volume wise. I'll send a pic of my kettle full.

The ID of the red hose is 1" not sure what the OD is. The white hose down low is 3/4" ID.

That is my patent pending homedepot yard stick. On there

Lookin good man that lager looks great I hope they sell like hotcakes!

The stout is on draft. It is really fantastic! I would take a picture, but its a stout so it would be a black beer! Its very black.

It has a very nice chewy mouthfeel. Smooth.

The initial sip has a fair amount of roast, but after that you get more chocolate then roast.

It has a solid brown foam that lingers and laces well. The color is very dark black with touches of red on the edges when held to the light.

I really like it!
