Like in any language, words can have multiple meanings. Fest is one if those, in German.

The meaning here is ‘fixed’, as in not moving or fastened, an adjective. So when I see posts about a festbier it makes me giggle a bit. It cannot move!

In German, nouns (not just proper nouns) are capitalized. So Fest is a noun, whilst fest is an adjective. Thus the giggles for a festbier.

Yes, Fest means festival (as does Festival), but nobody would mistake a Festbier for ein festes Bier.

Now you know something new.
