I sprang for a Monster Mill to mill my own grain. There is not much discussion about operating the mill. Per the mill instructions I should mill 2 pounds of grain to clean to rollers from the manufacturing. So the problem immediately presented itself. The grain just bounces around in the chute. With out any downward pressure on the grain in the chute to grain will not go through the rollers to be milled. I even adjusted the gap to the widest and the grain will no go through the rollers.
Am I missing something?

Check you are turning the mill rollers the correct way! I think most people use a drill (I do) to turn the rollers, try flipping the drill to rotate the opposite direction!

I was under the impression that Monster Mill was a good quality mill and I assumed that the mill was sent set up proper to mill the grain without having to manipulate the roller setup.
I am using a Dewalt drill and it can only turn the roller in the clockwise direction. How would I flip the roller to make it turn in the opposite direction?

I hand crank my mill - clockwise should pull grain down, while counter clockwise should clear any jams. Try hand cranking to ensure smooth operation before turning to your drill. Also, I had my mill gap set at ~0.020, which resulted in a lot of skipping (no grain being pulled through rollers). When I opened the gap to 0.025, then grain pull became consistent. Finally, there should not need to be any pressure, otherwise you would not ever be able to finish the last bits in the hopper.

if you’re already on the widest setting, you should be able to hand crank 2 row malt through the mill. If not, something’s way off and maybe it’s best to call them.

I had all manner of these problems with my $100 2 roller mill, and it just got worse as the knurls rounded off.

I reversed the stationary roller, reset the gap and works perfectly.
You would think that brand new out of the box that I wouldn't have to take it apart to make it work.
It must have been assembled after lunch on Friday when people go back to work after a few brews.

I experienced the same as Herm.
I add a little grain to the mill first, then once it "bites" I pour in the remainder

Weird problem. Glad you found the solution. BTW, I have a 3-roller Monster Mill and it's always worked perfectly fine.
