So I have some stored kveik and other yeast that's in slurry form from prior brew and I'm not gonna be using it any time soon. Can anyone point me to an article or share your experience? I'm thinking to treat it like a sourdough starter and just pour off the old beer and add some pale dme wort...mix ...sit then back in the fridge.....thoughts?

Lol...yeah..yeah.. posted on that thread...I have been listening to Graham Stewart(sp?) on the Master Brewer's PCast #22? and I'm back at the rabbit's hole so thanks guys...more reading for a rainy week!

You can just re do a starter for them every couple of months or kviek can be dried and stored for much longer.
Traditional kviek brews are once or twice a year at barley harvest so that stuff is used to laying dormant a long time.

Was that the one where they talked about how to store their yeast between quarterly releases? I couldn't remember which podcast it was from, but it was interesting.

Heck, I don't even remember that. I can say KH2PO4 does work. 1.5 to 2% does the trick. Although I have heard of people drying Kviek out on cheese cloth and then freezing it, but I don't recommend it. It sounds like Kviek keeps well in a simple slurry. Here's an article:

Kinda? It was mostly about propagation and how it's a totally different system over fermentation..ie..growing biomass v making alcohol.
It's #22: 072
I'll find the link..I can't copy the url off my media player for some silly reason.

Thanks for the links HVM !
