    Propane Burner

I figured no instruction was needed based on the fact I'd seen one of them doing crawfish boils in the past. All in fun though, the crawfish were great. How about these morals: 1. Never assume anything. When you assume, some guy disassembles your stuff for no reason. 2. Even if you have a...

    Propane Burner

No problems yet. I get a nice blue flame from mine and it puts out a lot of heat. I haven't read the reviews, but I wonder if the people who posted the negative ones checked the air mixer. I get the best flame on mine when I have the mixer wide open. I let somebody use mine (without...

    Propane Burner

It also has brackets that you can adjust to fit your pot, which is a nice safety feature. Don't leave it outside though, mine (parts of the stand) got rusty pretty fast. I'm about to sand it and hit it with some hi-temp Rustoleum.

I have this one. it was on sale at Kmart for $30 when I bought it, which isn't bad for 100,00 BTUs I reckon. You can probably find it cheaper than 50 bucks if you look around. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Brinkmann-815-4005-S-Outdoor-LP-Gas-Cooker-Stand/161614581 UPDATE: Ebay has them for $35...

What to do with hop hash?

I've had the 420 and the Hop Hash, which are both pretty decent. They have a Hop Hash brown ale, never had that one. Idk if I could tell a difference between them and normally hopped beer, I'll have to try them again to refresh my memory. Speaking of stoner beer...have y'all tried Lagunitas The...

    thermometer broke

Nah, I have a pretty killer insurance plan. Ymmv of course. :p It's not just the 10% chance of drinking glass, you'd have to account for. You'd have to calculate the odds that the glass, once consumed, caused injury, in which case variables such as the size and shape of the glass, stomach...

    thermometer broke

The way I see it, the beer would probably cost about $30 total for the batch, which would be lost if I dumped it. I have a $20 insurance deductible for an emergency room visit. The choice is easy. ;)

Ha yeah, if I get a 10-99 in the mail for $.25 one year, I'll know it finally made its way out.

If you don't dump it, you could double up a couple of paint strainer bags and rubber band them to the end of the transfer tube when you move your beer to the keg/bottling bucket. That *should* strain out any glass pieces that are big enough to cause injury, I think. I believe the holes in the...

    First Barleywine

I'm sorry, I don't know how I missed that the first time. That's a doozy, you might want to try this yeast. You can rehydrate it in your priming solution, wait 30-90 minutes, then add your priming solution to your beer. I used it on a 12% barleywine that was slightly stuck and it worked well...

    Home brewing books

Off on a little tangent here, but one of my favorite brewing books is "The Home Brewer's Guide to Vintage Beer" by Ron Pattinson. The author's knowledge of British brewing history is staggering (he's written A LOT about this kind of thing), but he presents it in a fun way. The book also covers...

I think this craft beer thing is getting a little out of hand...

As funny as this is, I can't think of anything more self-absorbed than spending a pile of money on this. I'm picturing a guy looking down his nose at a glass of, say, Trappistes Rochefort 10, and saying, "Meh...they already made this for other people...I want something made especially for meeee!

Hooked, looking to get into all grain, but...

First off, welcome to homebrewing! Grainfather seems to have a lot of fans, and if I decide to go the automated route some day I'll buy one. Unless I strike it rich, in which case I'll be giving Sabco a call. I brewed extract for a long time, and just switched to AG a couple years ago. It...

    not enough carbonation?

They make small kegs but unless you're short on space don't bother. You just put the 2 gallons in the 5 gallon keg, and CO2 fills the headspace.

    Television Series

Mine is The Hound. Glad to see him back in business and with your boy Beric. I've read all the books, but it's been so long that the show has pretty much taken over the Game of Thrones department in the ol' noggin. But I'm mad at the show for not bringing Lady Stoneheart in. I don't care if...

What are you drinking right now?

British breweries have used cane sugar quite a bit, I've used it in stouts myself with good results. I think people are still stuck in that Reinsheitsgebot (gesundheit!) crap so they think a little sugar will make your beer nasty. As far as corn goes: a lot of us got into homebrewing back in...
