    Any car people on here?

I used to own two MGs - a 1974 MGB Roadster and a 1972 MGBGT. I rebuilt the engines in both cars and installed a supercharger in the GT! Had to sell them both when we moved and downsized on garage space! Still an avid F1 fan and went to all but one of the F1 races at Indy. Would love to go...

    O-Rings from McMaster-Carr

For those who may be interested - I was a little fed up with paying high prices for O-Rings at the brewing supply houses and I knew McMaster-Carr sold a wide range of O-Rings at reasonable prices - but you have to buy a lot of them (sometimes 100 minimum!). So, I slowly figured out the sizes...

Yeast Starter vs NB Fast Pitch

Me either, but I do hydrate the yeast before I pitch it. I typically have activity within 30 minutes or so!

    Heya, folks.

Totally agree with what Sandy Feet says - but don't be afraid to try an extract recipe kit to get started - it will require minimal eqipment and many of the homebrew stores will sell you a starter kit that has most of what you need except a kettle and cooler. It's how I started and it certainly...

    Does adding fruit raise ABV?

The process I used years ago to make a Cherry Porter (bottled) was to add the puree/flavoring just prior to bottling - but DO NOT add any priming sugar. The fermentation of the fruit juice in the bottle provided the carbonation! It worked perfectly! You are right that even at the end of...

    New Brewer in TN

Welcome - it is an addiction!

    Decline in Hombrewing.

I actually re-started home brewing AFTER Covid! I stopped in about 2010 because a local craft brewery would fill my Corny kegs for $40 - that was about the same price then as brewing my own (I was doing extract) and was better beer. Then in 2018 my wife took a job in the U.K. for 3 years so...

Not really and introduction, more a re-introduction!

    But... What do you fly?

    Brewery Name

I went for "Flat Cap" - being an immigrant from England and brewing mostly British style beers, the idea of Flat Cap appealed - and lends all sorts of possibilities for logos - not to mention having Andy as a spokesperson!

    Irish Moss or Whirflock?

I use Whirlfloc - but only because you can get a big bag of 'em on Amazon relatively cheap! Seems to do a good job though!

    filtering the wort

I use a pump to transfer to the (conical) fermenter, and I do use a large sieve to collect most of the hops and junk as it goes into the fermenter. I find this makes dumping the yeast from the bottom much easier, and makes for a cleaner yeast if I was harvesting it (I haven't yet)!

    External heating element

If it is just for a HLT, a Sous-Vide device may work. In anything with grain in it, I'm not sure an immersion type heater (exposed element) would work but YMMV!

    your favorite online homebrew supply

I was using Midwest Supplies, but they ticked me off when something I ordered ("in stock" on their website) was actually on backorder and the whole shipment was delayed about two weeks - not acceptable! I found a supplier about a 2 hour drive away - O'Connor's Home Brew Supply in Grand Rapids...

    Intro and Advice needed please

I restarted brewing after returning to the US from 3 years in the U.K.! I had decided on an electric system and was leaning towards the Brewzilla until I saw the Anvil Foundry - I wanted a 220v system but the prices of most systems (and delivery times) seemed to increase for the 220v option -...

    CO2 Shortage!!!

I use the small (5lb) bottles and got a refill at my local(ish) welding supply house for $15.00. Seems about right to me and there was no mention of any shortage!

    motorized mill

AC motor speed controllers are actually fairly simple. If you are confident with a soldering iron, you can build your own, but inexpensive ones are available ready built. https://www.electroschematics.com/motor-speed-regulator-with-triac/

    Grain Storage Ideas

Thanks Ward - that was a good idea! I found a place in K'zoo selling various sizes of sealable, food grade, barrels for $20 each with a discount on 5 or more. Going to pick up 5 tomorrow!

    Grain Storage Ideas

Thank you (and FrostyBeach) - these look ideal and the 15lb version is perfect for smaller quantities of grains that I don't buy 50lb sacks of!
