    My Brewzilla came with a mash cover which is really useless as I mash thin and it sinks. However….It would make a good press I think! I’ll try it with my brew day tomorrow and see if that pushes out some extra wort.

    No, that works great. I use light pressure, but I don't do it to avoid esters so someone who wants to ferment, say, a lager at room temperature, will have a different answer than me. I only use like 2-3 psi. It will not carb the beer much.

    Ouch. I'm a pretty good judge, and will judge according to style. I work with a grand master X or something like that once in a while, and she's awesome. Great palate, kind words, and helpful. Maybe you've just had some really bad luck with some competitions.
