    I brewed today!

Just thought i'd let you know how Thor's Thunder came out. This is the closest I have come to the pint Scott poured me in his garage. Mashed at 156f for 90 min. then a 2hr boil. Not much sweetness to balance all the dark malt and hops but a nice "creamy", for lack of a better word mouthfeel. And...

    Anyone else benefit from pandemic

Amazing to hear this from you @Hawkbox . The reason for supply and demand being as such is because the large lumber mills were shut down because of covid . The small mills that can distance and isolate workers are struggling to keep production going so as to keep people working. Don't worry...

How are all your hops doing that you're growing?

Watch out for males they could mess up all the others if they cross pollinate and go to seed.

How are all your hops doing that you're growing?

Hops can take a frost but not without hardening off. You prob don't want to leave the garage door open over night to get them used to the chilly air

something light and easy for summer

STOP STOP STOP! The original recipe you started with will come out great if your process of brewing and fermenting is good. Don't over think a simple summer siper! If you used a Saison yeast expect a tart or fruity result and with cascade and zest it should all blend together. If you want a...

A musing upon how to apply the "Golden Ratio" to Hop additions

I wish you luck on your quest. Science is presently finding that hops are not even close to being properly calculated. The idea of helping them out is a very good idea if that is your thing. Cheers!

    Troubleshooting mash temperature

Do you preheat the tun? If mash drops right away and not so much later then this could definitely help. Overheating water and waiting for some cool down would work just the same.

A musing upon how to apply the "Golden Ratio" to Hop additions

When it comes to math calculations I stay with the KISS rule. When blending hop bittering with multiple hops I stick with even numbers. Making 10gal batches I stay with multiples of even ounces. So no worries for 8 to 10 IBU's off 1 way or another. Aroma hops used properly will mean more to...

    Blending (creating something unique)

I like blending beers and as was pointed out have mixed with cheap lagers to take the edge off or carbonate. Recently we had a cherry Saison and a strong dry stout that went very well together. They made almost a cherry porter. It was super tasty. In my cellar is one of those "big Belgians" made...
