To pitch, or not to pitch

Awesome thanks guys, and the new born is no drama*touch wood, last night she put on a huge fuss because the wife had to much dairy, apparently it doesn't transfer well haha. I'll defiantly be giving the cold crush method a crack, haven't used it to date :)

To pitch, or not to pitch

Thanks guys, all good info to take on. sooooo... I ended up re-hydrating it this time around just to be safe but this wasn't my issue, the new born baby was going absolutely crazy and I needed to help out with the crying so in my rush to finish off my brew and pitch it I accidentally split the...

To pitch, or not to pitch

Thanks all for the feedback If I was going to reuse the yeast from my current brew, there isn't a concern with the old trub? does it create off flavours or it really doesn't matter, it will just settle? Also obviously not pitching enough has its effects but if I pitch to much? If I was to...

To pitch, or not to pitch

Did the title draw you in? Good :) So I am starting another brew soon and was considering if I should pitch my yeast dry, hydrated or get a yeast starter going, I have looked over a few articles and i am not even sure if it would matter with an extract brew but I thought I would ask you guys...

    First time kegging

Morning all, I went ahead and bought a keg and gas, maybe a bit impolsive but i am brewing faster then i can bottle haha. So i kegged it last night, insuring i didnt airate it, however i wanted to drink it tonight, so i saw you should gas it at 30psi for 30 hours then turn it down to 10psi for...

    10 Min boil?

Hey thanks everyone :) So I have it in the Pantry bottled. Then I plan to lager it before drinking, patience is the key. I have my next batch going on tomorrow after work, I am stepping it up and have bought the ingredients, as follows: Fat Yak Coopers Real Ale 1kg Light dry Malt 200gr Light...

    10 Min boil?

Yes plastic bottles. Oh right so I'll bottle them as soon as I get a FG then keep them in the pantry, after a few weeks when they are firm put them in the fridge to 'lager'. Is lagering an ongoing thing? The longer in the fridge (after they have carbonated) the better?

    10 Min boil?

Thanks Mark, So if I was to bottle for 2-3 weeks in the normal fridge (around 4-6°) this would also have a largering effect?

    10 Min boil?

So for questions: The batch has been fermenting for 22 days or just over 3 weeks Fridge has been sitting at 12° I checked the gravity again this afternoon (picture attached) its allot closer to what it should be but still not quiet there. I let it warm up to 20° before checking, I also made...

    10 Min boil?

I didn't use the supplied yeast, I used Saflager s-23 dry yeast lager, however thinking back now I did read that the instructions on the yeast packet called for two packets worth based on the batch size I think (I can't recall the exact details), I called the home brew shop and the bloke told me...

    10 Min boil?

Ah thanks guys, I was looking into a chiller, might be my next investment, do they connect to you tap, it looks like you need a special connection? Yeah the yeast I bought separate to the kit. I was keen on slightly more harder recipe to keep learning :) heading to the brew shop tomorrow...

    10 Min boil?

https://brewerschoice.com.au/shop/beer/recipe-packs/extract-pack/best-british-bitter-extract/#configuration Another question, in this recipe it has you add hops at the start and at the end (this may seem like a stupid question) but the instructions doesn't say to remove the hops from the wort...

    10 Min boil?

Really? haha thats a shame I got excited :P I'll look for another recipe then. So cool it down to 22, but does it matter how fast/slow I cool the wort down? does it effect the chemistry in any way? I have noticed allot of techniques involve cooling it rapidly, and I am not sure if that's...
