I bought some Caragold malt I am trying to add it to the my inventory list, It says PPG not set. After adding it to the steeping grains The OG is showing as 2.04 for 100g

I seem to get this all the time, I do extract brewing. I get it more when I don't use a muslin bag for the hops. It has never affected the taste and so I don't worry about it

People look at me with a funny look when I say I have never seen any star wars film. I have seen bits of some of the films and I know the 5 main characters in the first film but thats it

Welcome If you are a newbie and you have done 13 brews What the hell am I ? I have only done 4 brews ( a uber newbie perhaps )

As long as it was not a mercury thermometer I would follow the above suggestion ;)

Noseybear I did add water and now it is blowing the lid off lol ( np I extracted someand it has settled down. J A I did wonder about the lid being partially on, I know you can/t leave it closed as it has to boil away some nasty stuff I think the thing that really affected things is the boil...

I ended up putting more water in and it is furiously bubbling away. Will wait and see how it turns out

Ok thanks for that. Should I keep topping it up with boiling water to keep the original volume in the kettle ? It was a new bigger pot than I have used before and never thought of evaporation

I put my recipe in to the brewers friend calculator as I have done the past 3 brews. It said the OG would be 1.041, It actually turned out to be 1.048 The boil water did evaporate more than I expected Could that be the cause of the higher OG ?
