    I'm Signing Out.

@GFHomebrew I am going to miss you man! I do hope that you pop in occasionally to say hi and let us know how your sobriety is going and how you and your family are doing. I think you should change your signature to: NO WHEAT, NO RYE, NO BARLEY, NO ALCOHOL, NO PROBLEM! :) You got this man! I...

Fermentation stop to fast (2nd time 2nd bach)

@Mastoras007 I am not sure of your set-up but you should be able to rack off the yeast (your "mud" is mostly flocced out yeast) into the keg via the spigot at the bottom of you fermenter (if you have one) or you can use a racking cane: https://www.morebeer.com/products/easy-siphon-38-inch.html...

Brewzilla? Anyone have one and can give some advice?

@Yooper - @Ozgib's advice is certainly feasible... Even a large 10 gallon pot with a spigot, false bottom and a 240v heating element would work... Especially if you bought a nylon biab bag to fit - there was a guy making and selling them via homebrew talk forum - I still have one and found it...

Brewzilla? Anyone have one and can give some advice?

@Yooper I have been using both the 5 and 10 gallon brewzilla for 6 or so years now. I enjoy the unit and find that if you recirculate after the 1st 10 minutes through till you are ready to sparge (or no sparge) then the temperature stabilizes through the mash. I have verified this with temp...

What are you doing with homebrew today?

Added some maple syrup to a few brown ales! One with a bit of Pecan Extract.... Looking forward to the results!

Fermentation stop to fast (2nd time 2nd bach)

Whirlpools are used for several reasons - the first is as you think - it causes particulates to drop into the center of the kettle and your final run off to be clearer. It also helps avoid clogs in pumps for breweries. Additionally, whirlpools are done for late hop additions at specific...

    Decline in Hombrewing.

This is exactly what I thought when I first read the title! lol Homebrewing isn't on the decline - just the pandemic spike is waning. I bet the spike created many lasting homebrewers though. This is one of the biggest reasons I brew! I just love sharing it! Ounce for ounce it IS cheaper too -...

    Cloudy Beer

Were the kits all grain? What brand Marris Otter are you using? Simpsons, Crisp or Bairds? Not sure if that might make a difference. I almost always get cloudy beer when I dry hop - but you seem to have already ruled that out via the kits...

What are you drinking right now?

Hasn't dropped clear yet, or even carbbed up completely - I just couldn't wait! Why has it been more than 3 years since I last brewed this?

    Brewing burnout?

I know this feeling all too well! Typically happens to me every Spetember or so and then I don't tend to brew again until March. This year seems to be the exception! (we must have swapped places!) - No matter how long the hiatus for me, I always came back! I am sure you will too!

Bock too big! Any ideas on how to help?

Yeah, that is why I was wondering if maybe the 1:1 ratio would work.. Maybe that's how they got their numbers? I've prepped the recipe that will be pitched on the yeast cake of the last batch and it is another bock - but this time I plan to reduce the grain by 4 lbs and use 3lbs of DME. I'll...

Hello, my beer tastes like rubber. (Answered)

If you've been using the same water - esp. well water than I doubt it is Chlorine - but if you use city water - it every well could be that (if they recently started treating it differently. My judgment would be a wild yeast. It could have even been slowly colonizing in the yeast you've been...

Bock too big! Any ideas on how to help?

I am thinking of going with the DME route... Part of me is confused though as the brewzilla 65L always touts 35lbs as its max grain capacity and I was well below that... I guess a grist to liquor ratio is needed to better implement the 35lb max! 35lbs at a 1:1 ratio? - Just to be clear, in 2-3...

Bock too big! Any ideas on how to help?

Well... that is true. I could do a 5 or even 7.5 gallon batch... I thought about boiling longer but my day was already extended 2 hours with the mash trouble and the late start... I did have the capacity to do so though - I was a bit over on my remaining wort.

Bock too big! Any ideas on how to help?

Hello all - I had a hell of a brew day yesterday! I kept my cool and my wits about me so I certainly made beer! However, I am looking for some advise for what to do next time I try and brew this one! https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/1456839/shuttz-bock-10g I adjusted my grist...

    Mash Thickness question.

This depends on several other things like boil off rate etc... It can get pretty deep BUT you can start with some approximates (the standard settings in the Brewing Equipment section of Brewer's Friend) and then dial it down from there based on results of your first couple brews - if you take...

You should check out Homebrew: Beyond the Basics - I love the book! It does have 1 or 2 Gluten Free recipes in it if I do recall. They sue White Sorgum Syrup... One was a Beligian Dubble... The other was like a pale ale or IPA?

I always got a kick out of Trialben (for some reason I read it as trail bien (like good trail in spanglish - lol)... and I mean, I read it that way for probably 2 years. Does GF stand for Grain Father?
