    Hmmm, straw? That sounds more like a grain bill and water flavor. What is your grain bill/recipe so far?

    I do yeast splits nearly every time I am just brewing to fill a tap space. It's a great way to dial in a recipe as well as see/taste the actual differences in yeasts. Many that claim to be the same strains have been remarkably different.

    Not exactly sure what you are wanting but I think you mean Pine or evergreen? In that case a Chinook/ CTZ hop combo is pretty good. Centennial is another good Piney hop and it goes good with a citra hop late addition. I think thats what green flash IPA has.

    As a beginner with an extract kit I would advise to be careful when adding the extracts. Whether they are dry or liquid, when you first get up to a boil after they go in there will be lots of foaming. Be sure to have adequate head space in the kettle and don't look away.     I would start with Maris Otter at about 85%, Cara-Pils and Flaked oats at 6% each and 3% Lactose to push the sweetness up. 6 IBU of chinook at 15 mins, citra and azacca in WP, same in high krausen and again 2 days later. (5 gal Batch) Imperial Dry hop yeast.
