What are you doing with homebrew today?

Assuming the cooler box will keep the temperature swings slightly above and below the median, I think the Saison yeast will do fine.

    Propane Burner To Boil Wort

I have a 10 gallon Spike kettle and love it. I also love their tag line "Your liver fail before our kettles will" :D

    Propane Burner To Boil Wort

Depends on my batch size. My last batch was and an 8 gallon batch and was as full as @YaroBeer's kettle. Just need to pay super close attention as it nears the boil and until the hot break subsides.

    Propane Burner To Boil Wort

@Mont Y. Märzen , a wind screen doesn't need to be fancy. Mine is just an extra piece of duct pipe that I flatten and folded in half. I put a brick on the back of both sides to keep the wind from blowing it over. The horizontal plate is another surplus piece of metal and that is just to keep...

What are you drinking right now?

Local Total Wine has both. I may have to make a run later today!

    Brewing on hold

Holy S***! That's a terrible situation to be in. So glad everyone is ok!

Jump from homebrew to a brewery

I think this is your biggest asset. You'll know more than most homebrewers that go pro. Just think a few years from now, when Mastoras007 beer is being distributed worldwide, we can say "We knew him when he first started!" :) I hope you go for it!!

First time using the strike water calculator can you guys help me out?

Because I mash in a picnic cooler (old school batch sparge method) I have set my mash tun heat loss to 6°F in my equipment profile. This accounts for heat that goes into the cooler itself upon adding the strike water.

    My favorite Styx song!

First time using the strike water calculator can you guys help me out?

Your numbers are all very close to mine and and most often my strike water is 166°F (74°C). As for gravity points, different malts have different PPGs. I always go by what the recipe editor has.

What are you drinking right now?

Wind Up is also near the top of my very favorite Tull songs. In high school one of the things that amazed me about the Aqualung album was that side 1 had gritty hard rock songs like Aqualung and Cross-eyed Mary and side 2 had faith based songs like Wind Up and My God. It showed the younger me...

    I brewed today!

I brewed Josh's Smiddicks today. It was sunny, 50°F (10°C), and I could sit away from the wind, so it was t-shirt day! Once the boil started, I just sat there in the sun listening to an Experimental Brewing podcast. If I could just get someone to do the cleanup, it would be a perfect day.

    Late to the Tilt party

You're way ahead of me. I didn't even know it was possible to put two on the same graph. Plus I have neither a Rapt Pill nor a Tilt.

Mapping multiple brews on the same graph is awesome!

    Fermenting in a keg.

This video shows some different examples of floating dip tubes. I have the FLOTit 2.0 and it works great.

    Fermenting in a keg.

You would need to replace the dip tube with a floating dip tube. Even a shortened dip tube would be too long unless you rack to a serving keg first.

Graduating to your own all grain recipes...

This is what I do. This way there is no worry about how much of the trub is yeast. Plus there is no hops to potentially alter the flavor of the next batch. If you haven't used the yeast after a few months, you can boil up some DME rebuild the yeast in the starter.

    Propane Burner To Boil Wort

I have a Dark Star 2.0 burner (65k BTU). I turn the burner up to where the flames are significantly yellow (which means poor combustion) then turn it down just enough so the flame is blue. I've never had a problem with scorching the wort. I think that's more of a risk with electric. Boiling...

    Late to the Tilt party

jk @Josh Hughes! :p Yeah with spunding you have more of a need for near-real-time data. In my case I just ferment a little longer without impacting anything. Now if they cut the price in half, I'd definitely buy one; if it was even $100 I'd consider it. For me the bang for the buck just...
