    Yeast Calc

Any updates on this? I used the Braukaiser calculator and underpitched my beer. That’s DIPA wasted now. Please fix the Chris White stir plate equation.

    Yeast Calc

But what about the other White ones? Are not those also wrong?

    Yeast Calc

That was not my experience, so it must have been something new. I never changed the gravity, so that was no issue. But if I changed the size of the starter (in liters) using the stirplate equation, I would always get appropriate results. I could adjust the size and use steps to achieve the cell...

    Yeast Pitch Calculator (iPhone)

I saw that, but it doesn’t mean it was wrong or bad. They’re telling us that the “white no aeration” and the “white shaking” are accurate, but the stir plate is not?! They can’t say it’s unconservative because the braukaiser says any size starter creates an over pitch. If the issue is on the...

    Yeast Calc

Is there an explanation as to why it’s inaccurate? I utilized it and it got me consistent results. The Braukaiser always seemed to over-estimate the cell count.

    Yeast Pitch Calculator (iPhone)

The mobile website (iOS Safari) no longer has White Stirplate as an option for the yeast calcs.

    WLP033 Klassic Ale Yeast

Results are in Mashed at 148 and resulted in 81% AA, much higher than the listed values. 1.066 to 1.012 The fermentation had adequate yeast, if but a little under-pitched. Started within 12 hours and went strong...but then took forever to finish. Strong flavors of either diacetyl or some...

    All Taps pouring all foam

I usually set at 30 psi and let it sit for 24-48 hours depending on beer style. I'll check every 12 to see how it's coming along. I recently ordered a carbing lid w/ the dip tube and carbing stone. A mimic of the pros, so carbing can be done at pressure using the chart within 24 hours. I'm pumped.

What to do with hop hash?

I am in the process of developing a hop hash recipe with YCH's Lupl2n CryoHops or whatever the hell it's called. Simcoe. The thought is get a nice moderate pale ale, bittering hops only (no flavor/aroma.whirlpool), and then chuck a bunch in the dry hop...

transfer from glass demijohn to keg using pump?

I anticipated the volume of whole cone dry hops to be much larger than they turned out, and my 6 gallon carboy had too much headspace on a delicious red ale. The beer was much better going in than going out. I now exclusively dry hop in the conical for pellets or in a purged corny keg for whole...

    Brew blocked

I would replace the pale ale with Vienna. Keep the crystal.

    All Taps pouring all foam

I'm happy to report the problem was over-carbonation. I fully purged the keg, connected the party tap (I'll call it that to differentiate from picnic tap/cobra tap), and poured 50% foam. A few minutes later repeated and got 20% foam. Again later and 5% foam (what I want). This means that...

transfer from glass demijohn to keg using pump?

I have definitely used a pump on the end of a racking cane. This was to transfer wort out of my brew kettle into my fermenter, so any oxygen pickup was welcomed. Why are the autosiphons not working? If you have enough height differential and long enough tubing it should work 100%.

    White Labs Pure Pitch Viability

Reporting back - I used both the 6 month old White Labs PurePitch and the 1 month old PurePitch, no starter, which calculated out to 0.75M/mL/P and it was cranking within 12 hours. After a week there are no signs of poor yeast health or weak fermentation. This is a half a point in the...
