When 73/27 ground beef is on sale for less than $3/lb you splurge and make some really unhealthy burgers :D so tasty, and with oven fries from scratch. Put an air fryer on the wedding gift registry so maybe someone will gift us one for future French fry endeavors lol

The newer ovens have them too. I like my oven air fryer.
My 90/10 sirloin has become quite expensive. I'm happy when it is $10/lb
It isn't even cheap when Kroger has it for delivery.
I do like to do air, oven fried chicken strips with a mustard dressing to put on a salad.

The fat in ground beef mostly melts off, so 73/37 or 80/20 beef is not particularly unhealthier than 90/10. Neither is health food.

As we go into 2 days of almost straight rain in Southern California (haha!) I decided to make a hearty split pea soup. Had extra bacon to use up and found a different recipe than what I follow that uses bacon to create the fat to saute the veggies and provide a topping to the soup. Delicious and the Mrs. Loved it too.

That looks good.
I know with Sunfire's Pumpkin, I found a way with a Thai recipe to put some more protein in it to make it more like a stew.
I wonder if there is a way to do that with yours outside of the bacon? It is just me, so I have to eat on everything for a few days, or it is a waste of money. I did find a way to get around buying most things from Publix, which is stupid expensive, but nothing is cheap anymore.

Thanks! I don't typically use bacon in my split pea soup but I had some on hand that I needed to use up. I would add beans (black or white) and use butter in addition to olive oil for more protein, maybe even use bone broth?

Get a ham hock or two, they are inexpensive and add a ton of flavor
