Bottled a porter today and decided to add a little vanilla...just for kicks. Was going to add some bourbon as well but then realized I'd rather see what comes from the vanilla alone. One step at a time. Took a FG reading and then drank the entire hydrometer. Is that wrong?
It's called quality control, after checking the FG I pour the sample into a glass and put it in the fridge, chill, then perform the QC
Cold crashing a Nut Brown Ale. The wife and I are going to have to finish off the keg of Vanilla Porter to make room for the Nut Brown later this week. Sad to see the Vanilla Porter go, but ready for the Nut Brown. And if we kill off the Vanilla Porter. With a little luck, I’ll be posting tomorrow, in this thread, that I’ll be cleaning an empty keg! Be safe everyone in the States on this Labor Day weekend!
Bottled my Blueberry Ale today. Turned very nicely I think. Reddish amber, nice slight maltiness, slightly hoppy and nice blueberry flavor. Enough blueberry to smell and taste it. I too drank the test jar!Followed Craigerrs advice and chilled it all, just under a pint extra left over. It's all about QC! Offered the blueberries to wife and son, asked if the wanted some bluberries to put in their oatmeal. No takers. All the best, Charlie.
Added some honey and DME to my Kottbusser. Apparently the lacto ate some of my sugar in getting to pH 3.62 so I needed to replace it. Also, just sampled probably the worst beer ever in one of my favorite watering holes, a strawberry blonde. Aside from containing alcohol, there was nothing good about that beer. I swear it tasted like flavored cough syrup.
went to local brewery and home brew store to refill some inventory. Got a bargain a 50# Breiss 2 Row crush bag for $38 from fresh inventory. Brewed a California common Sunday - Anchor clone. Plane to do a study and remake beer with bry97 instead of WLP001 and then up the grain bill on the pale malt to target 6% and replace northern brewer with cascade It will help me better understand yeast and hop changes simple grain bill 9# pale 1# crystal 80 30 ibu hops bittering 1 oz northern brewer 5 min (5 ibu) ~5% 35 ibu
Just picking up RO water for my next brew. Last one just about ready to keg. Likely keg tomorrow and brew Saturday.
Picked up ingredients for the Nautical Star Recipe. I'm hoping to brew Sunday, but it may have to wait till next weekend.
