    Looking to brew Red.
Not real concerned with West Coast or Irish.
I did find a West Coast Red recipe that contains the following:
    10.75 lb MO
    8 oz C60
    8 oz C120
    4 oz Choc Rye

Would like opinions on leaving the grain bill as is or subbing the crystal and choc rye for Red X Malt and / or Cara Red Malt.
Never brewed this style. Did have an Irish Red recently which kinda tasted like an Amber but want a more Red tint.

I think that grain bill looks good.

I love chocolate rye for color and subtle flavor

Not quite in the ballpark but here is my red rye ale recipe. I don't feel the need for crystal malt with red x in there.
    41% Red X
    39% Pilsner
    17% rye
    3% chocolate rye

    14 SRM

I make it pretty hoppy so it's kind of like a red rye "pale" ale

Yea that's way too much crystal.
May just roll with what i have. Might sub some of the MO for Red X.

Definitely not red like i had hoped. Also taste a bit on the thin side. Taste wise not bad.

It's getting better. Holding up a pint to the light is more red then the photo looks however not exactly what i was aiming for. Going to make some tweaks for the next time I brew. Probably going to add a dry hop addition and increase the honey malt.
The main thing is it's drinkable.
