Toasting flaked barley?

So I'm getting closer to my target Nut Brown I'm developing and going to try toasting the oats in the oven until they start smelling like oatmeal cookies. I've seen, read or heard that this is a great step to that toasty nutty flavor. Before I get to that point however, I'm brewing an Irish Death clone next and wonder if anyone has ever toasted their flaked barley?
Similar taste profile do you think?
