Lets see if I can post this...
I decided to make a simple plate stirrer for doing yeast starters.
I had a mains powered equipment fan - just lying around(?) - a switch, some powerful bar magnets and an empty plastic sweet box from our Christmas binge.
I cut holes in the base of the box to match a small mains switch, the power cable entry and air holes so the fan did not get overloaded when in action.
The spacers are there to allow for the fan to turn with the magnets as close as possible to the base (soon to be the top).
The magnets are glued to the top of the fan and the power cable has been soldered to the switch and fan terminals. Yes I broke one of the corners of the box when the wind caught it while the paint was drying outside - Gaffa tape to the rescue.
The end result (if this can be posted here?) is the whole thing in action.
Total cost £6 - about $10.
Yet to do a starter but next brew this week will give it a whirl.
