Hey fellow brewers. Just joined the site - dumb question already. I'm trying to enter a recipe and it keeps stopping me and telling me, "efficiency must be a positive number". It IS a positive number (70%), so does anyone know what it's talking about? Thanks.

Make sure the '%' symbol is not actually entered into the box. In other words, only enter numbers into that field.

I'll add a todo item to have it ignore the % symbol down the road, but not sure when we can release that.

Thanks. Yeah, I messed around and figured it out. That's a nice program.

I just thought of another question: what are the units of time in the mash area?

Mash step times are in minutes.

That area is free form, just provide a guideline of time and temperature.

When it comes to the amount of water, that can be left blank, or rough values can be provided. The Brew feature merges up your equipment with the recipe, and the Mash tab in the Brew feature pretty much takes over from there. Since everybody has slightly different equipment (and process), mash water volume will be different for everybody.
