I´m gonna brew a session ale at 3.5% abv and want to use a higher mash temp to get some body. I first put 70c as a mashtemp and got a FG at 1010 , later I change the mashtemp to 73c, which gave me a FG at 1007?? I thought it would change to a higher FG??
Usually hotter may makes less fermentable wort. My guess is your OG is lower, so your FG is lower as well
Hmm very interesting, it should definitely be higher at 73C than 70C. It shouldn't make much difference, but can you share the recipe?
I've found the only way to change FG in the recipe editor is to change the yeast attenuation. Changing mash temp does nothing
There are so many things that can effect FG, it's hard for software to predict. I change my attenuation as well to get the number I want, but in the end, it really doesn't matter what the software says, just the hydrometer tells you.
You can always screw up like me and make a Pumpkin Beer without adding the enzymes, mash on an unlevel surface where your kettle temperatures are all over the place and use one bad and one good package of yeast LOL. This time for real, if you don't like your FG, try another yeast that doesn't attenuate as much.
