I know this is a kinda custom as you go form in the yeast section but shouldn't it read at least how must yeast is needed for the batch above, and getting more complex, based on what yeast they pick dry or liquid and brand maybe in a drop down, it would then read out how many packets needed or cells or both, just a thought

Re: Yeast in new recipe form

The link to the yeast pitch calculator is there, and you can pick set the pitch rate, but it gets fairly subjective after that.

For example, how many Billions of cells are in a dry yeast pack (Mr Malty says 20B/gram, but the manufacturers are closer to 6B/g). What if it is 6 months old? Liquid yeast has a decay rate as well. If you make a starter, will it be stepped up, is there a stir plate? When it comes to yeast slurry the range we have seen is anywhere from 1B to 5B cells per milliliter. Wish all this was simpler, but the yeast pitch calculator is there to guide you based on your situtation (which indeed is different from the recipe itself).

We could show the required cell count based on the target pitch rate.

I like that.

Re: (NEXT RELEASE) Yeast - show the required cell count

This is scheduled for the next release. We'll see about putting it on the view recipe page as well!

Updated the name of the thread for clarity.
