    Water treatment, NEIPA

Is this the same recipe as the previous batches that you liked? I assume so, but just to clarify. -> Yes it is. Where did you get the starting water profile? Is it from a lab test, or from your water supplier? -> It's from the water supplier. Was the water the same water other than the salt...

    Water treatment, NEIPA

Maybe it is the ph, have to rely on the water calculator here which said it's fine. Guess I'm going to stop treating my water. Just thought reversing that ratio of sulfate to chloride to 1:2 would be an improvement, since it says so in almost every article you read on NEIPAs. Thanks for all the...

    Water treatment, NEIPA

Here is the link to my water stats https://www.brewersfriend.com/mash-chemistry-and-brewing-water-calculator/?id=XXXQ3H2 I went for 40 IBUs, which is not too much for a jucy IPA (I think). It is also more about the quality of the bitterness, not the amount. All my beers have been fine so far...

    Water treatment, NEIPA

This batch did not turn out good at all. Contrary to my expectation, the bitterness is really harsh and makes the beer almost undrinkable. Now I am wondering why that is. After reading all those articles about how water is the most important part in a beer and that you can improve quality by...

    Water treatment, NEIPA

I read that destilled water has a ph of 7-8, but once opened the reaction with carbon dioxide lets it sink to a ph of 5-6.

    Water treatment, NEIPA

Thanks, yeah changing the ph of the destilled water does not seem to do much for the mash ph, so it should be fine.

    Water treatment, NEIPA

Hi, my beers have been fine so far and my next step is to start treating my water. The goal for my NEIPA is to lower sulfate and get more chloride since I was not happy with the mouthfeel and the hop bitterness was a bit harsh. I'm trying this by diluting with 10 l of distilled water (for...

Update: Fermentation time, Wyeast 1318, thick krausen, dry hopping advice

Yeah, I'll have to check gravity. The ideas as to why there is still airlock action is helpful nonetheless, so thanks for all the information!

Update: Fermentation time, Wyeast 1318, thick krausen, dry hopping advice

It's been 14 days, and there is still airlock activity (did not have a chance to take a gravity reading). I read posts where people say that the yeast finishes in 3-5 days. Does anyone have any ideas? I have never had a beer that needed this long.

Update: Fermentation time, Wyeast 1318, thick krausen, dry hopping advice

Hello, I need some advice for my dry hopping. I am currently fermenting an NEIPA using Wyeast 1318 London Ale III and after 8 days I am still waiting for it to finish. I read that this yeast is a top cropper, meaning that the krausen will not fall to the bottom, but will stay on top. Is that...

    Cloudy Yeast Goodness

Hi, I recently read about the New England style IPA and found it very intriguing. So I did some research and made this recipe: http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/420821/muddy-waters-ipa Bottle fermentation will be done for christmas.

    cloudy beer

I'm no a 100% sure there was hot break, but I think so. I skimmed some stuff off the top. But there definitely was no cold break. The thermometer is correct as fa as I know.

    cloudy beer

Hi, I just brewed a small batch of an IPA and it happened the second time that the wort stayed cloudy after the boil and cooling down. I have read a lot about hot and cold break and have noticed the effect in former brew sessions. I think - but am not sure - it did not happen in this brew, even...

    Bottle conditioning time

Thanks for the info. Since it is getting colder now I guess I'll let it condition the appropriate time and put it in the garage afterwards where it will not get warmer than 54°degrees. Before drinking it will go to the fridge for +2 days. I'm gonna need a solution for the summer though.

    Bottle conditioning time

Hi everyone, I have had my Pale Ale - FG 1.016, ABV 5,4% - bottle conditioning at room temp for about 4 weeks now. I have tested one and it turned out pretty great. Is there a maximum time for bottle conditioning and should I put all the bottles into the fridge at a certain time, or can I just...

    Hallo from Germany

Hi skeevystoner, I can only assume that it is becoming more and more popular. But I don't really know. The craft beer trend is only now coming to Germany and therefore there are quite a few brewery start ups. Even the large breweries like Bitburger or Radeberger are producing Pale Ales and IPAs...

    Hallo from Germany

Hi everyone, first of all thanks for all the help that not only this site, but also the forum provides! I just started brewing (all grain) this year and currently have my 5th batch in the fermenter. It is also the first batch I did with the tools from this site. After a Sierra Nevada Pale Ale...
