    Rauchbier vs. PB Porter

I did a chocolate cherry stout with the cacao nibs recently and I wasn't too pleased with the chocolate flavor. The cherry came through great, but the chocolate flavor was over bitter and over powering. My next one I would probably try the syrup, so that's my vote for your PB porter.

    I brewed today!

I transferred mine to secondary today and added the dry hops. Came out to a FG of 1.005, so it has an extra 1% ABV than I expected, but I won't complain about that. I call it my beginner's IPA, for people who aren't into the stronger hoppier beers. http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/r ...

    Chocolate Stout (with cocoa), Help!

I have a chocolate cherry stout that I'm going to keg today. I used 4oz of cacao nibs in the secondary fermentor. Let it sit for 2-4 weeks.

    Powdered Sugar in Boil

Cheaper than corn sugar and dissolves better than granulated sugar. At least that's the theory behind it.

    Powdered Sugar in Boil

I've seen many posts online about not using powdered sugar when bottling because it can cause bottle bombs, however, would it be ok to use during the boil? They say it has some added corn starch but I'm not sure if it would make much of a difference. Again, it's not for priming, and it's a...

    Keg conditioning with DME

I always force carbonate my kegs, so I'm not 100% sure, but as far as I know it's the same. Maybe someone else with more experience knows different though.

    Keg conditioning with DME

http://www.northernbrewer.com/priming-sugar-calculator/ Bottle and keg conditioning should be the same. Each individual bottle should carbonate at the same speed as a keg as long as everything is mixed well. Hope it helps

    Convince Me to stay

As a relatively new brewer, I find the calculators and builders to be extremely useful. However, I do see your point that it may not be essential to your brewing. While I do enjoy the forums and people in them, it is a little disappointing to always see the same 6-7 names and not much else. I...

    Fruit IPA?

I washed the yeast from my last batch (1st time trying it) so maybe I'll try washed yeast in 1, dry yeast in another, and buy a new liquid yeast in the 3rd. Maybe I'll throw some orange peels into 1 or 2 of them too, what's the worst that could happen?

    Fruit IPA?

I think I might skip the fruit. I want to experiment with adding the malt at different times in the boil. Every other brew I've done has been all malt in the beginning so I want to try some late additions and see how the batches change. As for the hops, I've heard a lot of good things about...

    Fruit IPA?

I was at my local homebrew store yesterday and got a really good deal on a 33lb jug of light LME. My plan is to make 3 separate 5 gallon IPA batches with 11lbs each. I want all 3 to be slightly different, so I'm thinking of maybe adding fruit of some kind. I've seen quite a few IPAs that use...

    What do you mix?

Homemade hard cider with a shot of Fire Water. I don't add any cinnamon to my cider just so that it will go better with the liquor later on. Good stuff.

    Chocolate Peppermint Stout (With Liquor)

I like the idea of soaking it in the oak chips. Might work best in the secondary. I'm hesitant to just pour the liquor straight in cause it's some strong stuff. Maybe I'll give it a try. Thanks for the tip!

    Chocolate Peppermint Stout (With Liquor)

I want to do an experiment with a chocolate peppermint stout by using Rumplemintz for the peppermint. I've seen a few beer recipes that use whiskey or brandy in the secondary for flavor, but not much else. Any ideas on if it would work, and how much to use? I'd probably start with a 1 gallon...

    New Project, freezing wort

My brother tried freezing some of his wort to save and turn it into a candle (he's weird), and once his fermentation stalled he thawed it and added more yeast to it to use as a starter. It did work, but it seemed like it gave the beer kind of an off flavor. It was still drinkable, but you could...

    Who's Brewing My Beer?

The site does tell you how many people brewed your recipe, but I wish you could see information on who, or at least what steps they're on. It seems to me that people don't comment on the recipes too often unless they're posted in the forum, so it would be nice to at least see information about...
