Why mashed fermentable yields less than unmashed

In the recipe editor there is something I have trouble understanding. If the user selects for example 5 kg of a Castle Malting Belgian wheat the gravity is 1.083 (with an efficiency of 72%) as long as the mashed checkbox remains unchecked but decreases to 1.060 when Mashed checkbox is checked...

What does the Brewersfriend Device Map describe ?

Thank you guys for your answers. What I can say is that it is not Brewersfriend subscribers as I do not appear on the map. Devices that logs brew data is more plausible. But as there is no integration for my device( Brewbrain's Float) at the moment I do not appear as well. May I suggest to...

What does the Brewersfriend Device Map describe ?

What does the Brewersfriend Device Map describe? My question may be stupid, but I’ll ask it anyway, just so I don’t stay stupid. I looked at the Device Map but I do not understand what it describes. There are color dots with numbers but no legend. Did I miss something?

Does passing from diacetyl rest to lagering necessitate no bubbles at all through the air lock?

Agreed. I was starting to think the same. As I plan to decrease slowly I will start now.

Does passing from diacetyl rest to lagering necessitate no bubbles at all through the air lock?

Ok. I get it. Thank you very much. I will just wait 4 days at stable gravity and then start decreasing temperature for lagering.

Does passing from diacetyl rest to lagering necessitate no bubbles at all through the air lock?

I brew my first lager and I have just started the diacetyl stage. I monitor the gravity with a Float device as well as the temperature. I fermented at about 12°C knowing that the yeast manufacturer recommends between 12 and 18°C. Three days and a half ago, for the diacetyl rest I moved the...

Is the integration of BrewBrain (Nederlands) 's float planned ?

Hi. I have a Float device from BrewBrain in Nederlands (similar to Tilt) and it is not an integration possibility in Brewer's friend software. Is its integration planned in a near future ?

Equipment profile : how are hop utilization factors used

I have a little bit trouble understanding because in my equipment there is no value declared for Hop Stand and the value that is displayed in the recipe is 5% when I chose «Hop Stand» with a time but without declaring a temperature. The equipment profile doesn't seems to be the default. But...

Equipment profile : how are hop utilization factors used

Thank you for this very comprehensive explanation. Tell me please if I understand you when I understand that for problem 1 you apply default a utilization factor for each non boil addition — e.g. 5% for Hop Stand — and that these factors can be overwritten by the values the user declares in...

How to understand water requirements results ?

Thank you for your answer. At first I didn't understand it. You says "you've set the preboil volume to ...". No! I did not set it. Thus after looking at your answer i had a look at the recipe and saw that there is a button close to the preboil volume to calculate it. I never noticed it before...

How to understand water requirements results ?

Hi, It is the first time I use Brewers's friend software and I have trouble understanding why when looking at the water requirements for a brew as shown on the picture below there are several values for Preboil volume and Sparge water It seems to me that the actual values are those that are...

Which water profile for Pilsner ?

Thank you all for these reviews. It's a little difficult for a beginner to distinguish between sometimes distant opinions, but I'll try to do it anyway. It seems that for many of you getting affordable reverse osmosis or distilled water is not a problem. It's quite different where I live...

    Automatic salt additions calculator

Thank you for this additional information. I am not expert enough to maintain the contradiction any longer and I rather tend to find what you say founded and reasoned. After all, from what I have read elsewhere (Palmer and others) the water profiles are in general quite wide ranges of values...

Which water profile for Pilsner ?

I plan to brew my first Pilsner. My recipe will use Floor Malted Bohemian Pilsner malt and I have water that comes from the Auvergne mountains in France. Here is its composition Ca 4.1 / Mg 1.7 / Na 2.7 / Cl 0.9 / SO4 1.1 / HCO3 25.8. All this seems very close to the Pilsen city's water...

    Automatic salt additions calculator

Thank you @Yooper for taking time for these explanations. I am not a chemist and I trust you on this point. However, if what you say is true — which I repeat I admit — is it any different when the additions are evaluated by hand? If we cannot rely on the calculated ionic contents and on the PH...

    Automatic salt additions calculator

832 / 5 000 Résultats de traduction Thanks guys for your replies and sorry for being jet lagged on you. Apparently you all seem to be happy with a trial and error approach. As I understand it, salt composition would be second order of priority while PH would be first order. I can understand...

The link I give in my post is such a one and Brewfather includes it (though with a lesser capability).

    Automatic salt additions calculator

Yes I do. My main point is the fact that the user has to try various additions manually. What I am looking for is a tool that finds the right (best) combination automatically taking into account the salts you have at hand.
