    Porridge stout help

Hello folks, It's that time again. Just finished the last bottle. Spent the Summer drinking last Winter's lagers and bitters. @miaamelia: I'm with High Voltage. I'd have concerns about the amount of porridge. Looks good though. You posted in Feb. How'd it turn out? Revised recipe...

    This was finally it ...

Yeah, wouldn't be a successful brew day if something didn't go wrong - Braking a handle off a boil kettle had me mopping a good few pints up. Also boiled the mash once, forgot ingredients, dipped various body parts, kids toys and/or articles of clothing, used the wrong ingredients, invaded by...

    Porridge stout help

Hello folks, Not ready to launch another Porridge stout yet, but this thread gives some interesting thoughts. It suggests that Brewers Friend distorts the predicted abv when there are a lot of dark malts in the recipe. When Winter's over, I'll have to experiment...

    Porridge stout help

Well the 60 minute hops are in a basket, taken out at flame out. The extended time is just to get a little more aroma from the second hops. I don't know if this makes much difference. still learning all this you see. Imperial in a blonde? sounds interesting. I tried out a Vienna lager last...

    Porridge stout help

Some good ideas. From yourself and Mr. Donoroto. Maybe try a lower temp.I was trying not to make it too dry. And some cursing, although the curses I've spouted up to now haven't had much effect.

    Porridge stout help

I'm not getting a good conversion efficiency. According to Brewer'sFriend the strength should be about 4.9%, but I'm lucky to get 3%. The more I think about it the more it makes sense to use a proper base malt.

    Porridge stout help

Hi guys, thanks for the reply. Ooops. Not Victory, Imperial. Damn. Simpsons Imperial. It's a highly kilned malt, but Simpsons recon you could use up to 80%. But I take your point: It's not a base malt.

    Porridge stout help

Hi, Hoping you gurus out there can help me. https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/1269900/breakfast-stout-2022 I've been brewing for a couple of years as a hobby, 'kitchen top' setup. Started off reaching about 65%-70% efficiency then was astounded as it nudged 80% as my...

The grain I want to use is not listed - help!

How strange. The listed brands are a lot shorter than I remember: The only brand starting with 'S' is Sugar Creek Malt. Tried the old 'turn it off/turn it on' but still the same. Mike

The grain I want to use is not listed - help!

Hi Gents, What a great site! I've previously added 'Simpsons' grains of various types to my inventory. I'd like to add another but since your update I can't find it. I have to add it it as a 'custom'. All Simpson's malts are still listed under 'Home >> Fermentables'. Is this a bug or have...

    Fresh Hop Cones vs. Pellets

Hi, New member here. What a great site! So what ratio did you use? I have an old recipe book that uses whole dried hops. I've been substituting pellets weight for weight and it gives a slight increase in bitterness. I'd have no idea how to gauge fresh hops! Mike
