    Decline in Hombrewing.

I am brewing less often because I don't drink as much as I used to. I guess being 69 years of age does that. However, looking at the price of Craft Beer where I live and for a 24 of 355 ml the price is close to $72. I can certainly brew way cheaper than that even with the high cost of...

    Decline in Hombrewing.

My brew schedule is the same. I don't brew IPA's that much as the amount of hops in each recipe is expensive here in Canada. I buy everything in bulk as shipping has gone through the roof. Store bought beer has also gone through the roof. I brew because I really enjoy doing it, and have been for...

Maybe time to take the next step with the homebrew gear.

I brew also but when you live in Canada you can't help but save money when you brew it yourself.

    Brew Year Resolution's?

Brew the beer I like which is German Lagers. I have a Brown Ale and a Stout for Christmas, but after that all lagers. Still like AIPA's though, but will buy from my local brewery who brew a fantastic one.

    DIY Brewery

I bought two sanke kegs from the US and smuggled them back to Canada as usual. Back in the day nothing was available in Canada. I did find a 58 L electric brew pot out west and bought it. Converted my other two kegs to electric and am still using them. This was back in 2003.

    Bulk Grain???

Up here in Toronto, we have bulk grain buys every spring and fall. Prices are usually around $35.00 for a sack of Weyermann Pils malt. I usually stock up for a years worth and don't have to take the long drive twice a year. Any group buys around where you live? Homebrew clubs do this on a...

    I do the same thing.

    Tap cleaning

I take mine apart and clean it between kegs. This is in my pub room where it gets sun most of the day. My other tap in the basement doesn't get cleaned that often, a few times a year. I do get some brown crap inside the tap which gets sun so I know it is not over kill, it needs it.

    Cooling down in kegerator

I top up my keg once a day or so to allow for shrinkage. 5 psi is all you need.

    Chillers

I ran boiling wort through it every time I brewed. Something got in there and wouldn't leave.

    Chillers

I have. I am on a well and thought the plate chiller was great. After awhile I was getting off flavours that wouldn't go away. I used PBW, star san and thought I was giving it a good clean. The last time I used it, I drained a litre or so through the plate chiller and then hooked up my old...

    Weevils in the malt

I did on my first bag of wheat malt. Someone mentioned to put the grains in a bucket and add C02 to drive the air out. I started to pick them out but there was too many. I tossed the grain out and never ordered a sack of wheat malt again. No sure what the homebrew store does though, I mean if I...

Noseybear, I can't wait that long!!!!

    Bottle conditioned.....

The commercial beers I see say, " unfiltered ". I usually pick it up and check the bottom of the bottle which has way less yeast on the bottom than mine do.

    Colder Fermenting Temperature

I try to stay in the yeast manufacturer's temp range.

    Chest Freezer Recommendations

Mine is the same as Ozarks, same controler too. I have had it for around 3 years and yes, the 4 kegs are tight, but you can still get them in.

    too much foam from keg

You may of over carbed your beer. You can bleed off the keg often, or bring it out to room temp and bleed it off then.

    Special Hops

They might. Can you get something like Warrior, Magnum, or something with a high alpha percentage that you won't need much of and gives little flavour for a 60 min. boil?

    Keg line cleaning

I take my tap apart along with the beer line for a good cleaning. I replace the beer lines about once a year.
