Hi guys. I just kegged an ipa and there’s not too much hop flavour.
The recipe had me add some hops during the boil and also during the fermenting phase but despite that, it’s not as hoppy as hoped.
So now I’m wondering if I should throw in a little bag of hops into the keg as it’s carbonating...
I have a robobrew and i'm trying to figure out how much water i need to boil for my mash, and the temperature etc. I've been looking at this tool: https://www.brewersfriend.com/mash/ but i'm not sure what all the terms mean.
What is first rest temperature?
This is the recipe that I am using...
Yes. Well, i’ve Brewed 2 times before but guided / babysat by a master brew person. This was my first time brewing solo and first time using my own recipe. Thanks for the tip to check the tutorials. I’ll do that.
And actually, now that I’ve done more reading about how to use my hydrometer, it might not be so bad. I just realized too that I should read from the bottom point of meniscus, not the top.. which makes sense. (This is the article I was reading...
I’m guessing the temperature was somewhere around 21 C.
I didn’t realize this was a thing! Learn something new every time i brew. It’s great!
I just googled my specific hydrometer and it says it’s ideal for measuring at 60F which is 15C. Now I just need to know how to adjust my calculation.
Ok. So after playing with the calculator, i see that if i plug in 60% efficiency, then the OG changes to around 1.041 which is close to what I got... and the FG is now at 1.007.
I guess I wait now to see what happens at the end of my first fermentation period
Hm. So maybe 80% was too high to begin with you mean? If i change my recipe now to 60% efficiency then it changes my OG to 1.041 which is close to what I hit, and the FG to 1.007. Should I readjust these numbers and then try to hit 1.007? Is that the best way to go?
Sorry for being such a noob
Hi there.
I finally got around to trying my recipe: https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/817828/smashbomb-atomic-inspired-ipa
When I finished brewing last night, I measured the OG and it was only at 1.040 instead of 1.055.
I’ve been doing some reading about how to adjust the...
So it’s been a few weeks and I’m finally getting ready to brew this beer.
I just noticed though on the official website towards the bottom they actually say they use a mix of centennial and cascade and citra which is different from the hops list they provide at the top. I guess unless you know...
So there's something funky going on with the recipe tool because when I finished writing it days ago and printed it out, it had a 6.87% ABV (I'm looking at the printout). But when I see it now, it shows lower. ?? I'll have to play around. I haven't changed it.
That aside...
Yes, I have a...
Ok. thanks for the response. And would you use all citra? or should i try adding /mixing in some centennial and cascade into the whirlpool stage? This is my first IPA brew... and I don't even really drink IPA! So... i'm not familiar with the different flavors / scents etc.
I'm still working on my first recipe.

A few people have tried to clone the same beer:

I have a question about how to know what my mash water/grain ratio should be. i'm trying to figure out how much strike water I need for my robobrew to mash 9lbs of grain.
Can someone explain how / where I can figure out what this number is supposed to be?
Oh boy. I just check the temp in my closet where I keep the beer and ... I think that’s what’s killing it. I’m at 23 C / 74F !!!
The first batch I brewed was in the dead of winter and I idn’t Bother checking the temp.
But the last two have been since the warmer weather.
I think that must be...
Ok so basically what I”m understanding is regardless of whether it sits in the fermenter or i bottle it (with the new sugars added for carbonation) if it’s the yeast that’s causing the issue, then it’s gonna continue to produce alcohol.
What’s the benefit of leaving it in the fermenter...
The recipe suggests 7-10 days at 65F and then another 3 days at 68F
Ok so sounds like I should just bottle it today and condition it for 14 days is what the recipe says.
