    2nd baby beer ideas

I've been brewing an annual barleywine every year since my son was born (6 batches and counting). I want to do something similar for my daughter when arrives in January. I was thinking a Russian imperial stout, but never brewed one before. Any ideas for a good style that will keep for several...

    What's cookin?

Thought I'd start a thread for non-bread, pizza, grilled/smoked foods. So here's some homemade mushroom ravioli and cream sauce. Some shallots in the mushroom mix. Lots of thyme, and a little nutmeg in the sauce

    Homemade marshmallows

Thanks to @Trialben I just finished these. Super easy to make, about 20 minutes of actual time to do. Some are slightly yellow due to the non stick spray, but otherwise delicious. Next time I plan to use some flavoring besides just vanilla

    One last brew for 2019

I whipped this up for one last brew day of the year. Looking for something simple but good to have in the keg. Haven't messed with the water yet. I'm not sold on the hop schedule, I want it to be a bit dank, but also not overly complicated or expensive. Any thoughts...

    Grapes in beer?

Apparently, my uncle-in-law has a ton of concord grapes and said i could have them (not sure what he meant by that, probably just a sh!t ton). anyway, i'll do some searching, but any ideas on a beer for this? I believe dogfish head did something using wine must, but i think that might be a...

    Cooper's Barleywine 2019

It's a bit late, but I'm planning to brew this year's barleywine this weekend. It's been a while since I've tinkered with a recipe, so I had to re-familiarize myself with all the new bells and whistles. Also, I didn't mess with water additions last year, so that took some fiddling too. Any...

Sam Adams and Dogfish Head merge!

Just heard about this today. Not sure how i feel about it. Seems like it's one step away from being an independent brewery and one step closer to becoming like an AB InBev

Some good news for Maryland breweries

Looks like we've finally updated some of our laws to make it easier for small, independent craft breweries in MD. It's been a long time coming. Maybe it's a good time to dust off that old business plan and tinker with it....:rolleyes...

    Brewer's First Words

My son's been saying and repeating a lot of words lately, and last night i decided on a whim to see if he could say some beer related words. Malt, hops, and ale came out pretty clearly. Yeast and lager were a bit harder to make out, with the first one being more or less the same as his...

    Banana Chocolate Milk Stout

Ok, now that i think i've got my water additions sorted out, I'd like to get some feedback on a new recipe. The other night, my wife and i were talking about how the banana came through from the hefeweizen yeast in a recent batch. There was definitely a lot of other things going on in the...

PH and Salt Additions acting up

Just tried creating a new recipe since things have settled back down (https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/772882/chocolate-banana-milk-stout). This is only about my 3rd or 4th time using the water calc, but i'm fairly certain i'm doing it the right way. The problem is when i go...

    Using rice and wheat

I'm trying to brew something like a hefeweizen but not as full bodied. And I'm going to punch up the hop flavor a bit. I'm thinking of using some rice to help dry out the beer a bit, but that seems like it would just counter the wheat. I should add I'm using pilsner malt as the base, probably...

    First Biere de Garde

Ok, here's the first draft. I haven't done any of the water additions. Any thoughts? https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/388085/kierkegard-biere-de-garde

    Table Beer

I think I'm going to move toward a few smaller experimental batches, so I was thinking about getting a fairly standard table beer into a keg. This is what I have so far. Haven't done the water calcs yet. I'd like to not have any leftover hops, so I'd like to stick to full oz increments. Any...

    Homebrewers Board Game

Just found out I'm able to join this kickstarter a little late, and I'm superpumped about it. Their brewery board game was pretty good quality and fun, and the homebrew version looks even better. The "computer" player is even named Charlie P.! January can't come soon enough...
