    Harvesting yeast

I think I'll do exactly as you and Bob suggested. I keep a bread starter in the fridge. I'm going to experiment along the way to see how long I can keep some of it alive along the way. Thanks.. !

    Harvesting yeast

Can someone point me to a link or video that would show me how to reliably harvest yeast from trub? I've not ever done it before. Going to try and harvest US-05. I know it's inexpensive but I'd like to learn what all the fuss is about. Can I put it in the freezer, how much to I get, how to store...

    What would you do?

Yeah.. i thought about this too late. So I'd either be sucking starsan or air into the carboy. I think I'd rather take my chances with air. I will bottle on thew saturday I think. I'm now thinking to just bottle without a carboy cold crash and let that happen in the bottle. As it's a dry hop...

    What would you do?

Thanks for all the replies. I don't have any CO2 in the house. I also can't use a 3 piece airlock as my bar fridge isn't tall enough with the carboy in it as the compressor takes up space in the bottom. I like the balloon idea and will use that on my next batch. I think for this one I'll rinse...

    What would you do?

Ok so I'm sorry - this has been discussed to death, I get that. But I'm not sure what to do after reading what I've read on this.. I'll be bottling this week a very hoppy IPA with lots of dry hops. I want to cold crash to get the hops to settle. I don't have a keg system yet but thing that's...

    PUNK Recipe help..

Thanks - I'm not rushed for time. I'm wondering how long I can leave dry hops in. Will leaving them until I get to FG - about 3 weeks I guess - be too long and create off flavours? Thanks

    PUNK Recipe help..

Really great beer. Had it for the first time two months ago and had to give it a try. I messed up on my initial water volume so I didn't get the OG needed, but it sure smelled good when I loaded the carboy! What I don't' know is how long I can leave the hops in there. It calls for 5 days. So...

    PUNK Recipe help..

Hi Guys.. this recipe: https://brewdogrecipes.com/recipes/punk-ipa-2010-current says in the bottom right to dry hop for 5 days at 14C / 57F. I brewed yesterday and the yeast is well at it. The recipe says ferment at 66F which I'm doing. Normally people add dry hops after krausen falls. But if...

    Hop'n my brew..

Can you tell me more? What are you having trouble with?

    Hop'n my brew..

Well my first brew on the Clawhammer kettle is in the fridge.. I started with 8.4g thinking I'd lose 1.5g from to grain absorption and .5g to hops but I was off. I lost about 1.1g from a 10.3lb grain bill and post boil ended up with 6.3g - and that was with extending the boil to 75 minutes...

    Hop'n my brew..

Good idea.. never thought that the system itself drives the loss. Thanks Craig. Will post as I figure this out and dial it in.

    Hop'n my brew..

Thanks - if I finished the boil, then cool it, how do you add water or DME without having to boil again to sterilize. Or do you just do that - bring it back to aboil for five minutes after adding?
