    “Flameout” procedure

I’ve personally never really noticed any bitterness gained from an extended chilling time. I’m sure it happens but maybe the type of late hop additions I use just don’t translate into increased bitterness. You will have to just use your palate to decide if you are noticing anything. I use a...

    Cream Ale.

Here is my recipe to give you another reference point. This recipe won first place 2017 Bluebonnet Brewoff Hop Showcase category which was brewing a beer with cluster hops. This beer was also entered in the light American beer category and earned 2nd place at the same competition. Cluster...

    Biere de garde

https://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/657744/bier-de-marzen Here is my recipe for my Biere de Garde. I called it Bier de Marzen because I took my friends Marzen recipe added some sugar at flameout to boost the ABV. I used Wyeast 3522 as it is a restrained Belgian yeast. This beer...

No worries, thanks for looking into this!

    Brewhouse Efficiency question maybe error

Also, when you change the fermentor volume to 5.9 gallons to correct the gravity issue it then changes all of the water volumes in the Quick Water Requiment calculator.

    Brewhouse Efficiency question maybe error

So I’m not sure if this is an computer or human error on my part. I upgraded to a Fusion 15 brewing system and I’ve had a hard time dialing in my efficiency to get Brewer’s Friend to work well. I have my equipment profile with 2.5 quarts Kettle dead space and 1.1 quarts misc. losses. 4% wort...

Brewer's Friend App on an iPad Pro

I use Brewer's Friend on my laptop while I'm brewing. I have the app on my iPhone for recipe generation and to be able to access recipes when I'm at the home-brew shop. I have never used the app for brewing. I'm thinking about getting the iPad Pro to replace my laptop. Trying to get some...

    Bottle Conditioning Strong Belgian

I like to use this online calculator. It has worked well when I have used Dextrose, Sugar and Beet Sugar. The temperature of the beer is the warmest it has been during fermentation or conditioning. So if your fermentation reached 70 degrees and then you cold crashed to 40, you would use 70...

This recipe came out too sweet

Yup, I consider the color to be a match given that theirs is filtered.

So my second iteration is very close. Color looks good and the taste is almost there. Will have to decide as I go through this batch if there is anything I want to change.

This recipe came out too sweet

Finally had a chance to do a side by side comparison. My first attempt is definitely darker. I also don't have the rye bite like the original. Still it has turned out to be a nice beer. I'm not sure when I will brew the next iteration but here is the recipe I will try out. I'm brewing a...

Hop schedule for my Belgian IPA

Thanks for the reply. I have not had any problems with pilsner malt in the past. I will actually brew a 2 gallon test batch first. My pot fits in the oven so it will not be too hard to mash longer.

Hop schedule for my Belgian IPA

So I'm working on a Belgian IPA similar to Hommel Ale. From doing research it looks like they use Brewer's Gold and Challenger for Bittering. They use Hallertau and Saphir for aroma. IBU's should be around 40ish. This is where I don't know how to go about using hops. What I have now is 0.5...

This recipe came out too sweet

Figured I would post an update. I think part of the sweetness came from not being fully carbonated. It is fully carbonated and it is ok but still a little sweet. I think the next time I brew this, I will use a different hop and maybe increase the IBU's. Probably just do a bittering and...

This recipe came out too sweet

Since this was a small batch, I'm going to let it sit for a while longer before I taste another. If it is carbing slowly I don't want to find out that it finally is ready to drink and not have many left :) I'll be sure to repost when I do. I think I will try to get to their Brewery Tour...

This recipe came out too sweet

Thanks for the reply. I bottled. I'm planning to let it sit a little longer just to make sure it has fully carbonated. I will also do the longer chilling. Should I stay with Cluster or switch to a different hops?

This recipe came out too sweet

Local Buzz is a beer that I tried to clone that is brewed by Four Corners Brewery in Dallas. I basically used the information from Four Corners' website to get the OG, IBU, and ABV. Used this info to calculate the FG. They describe it as a Honey - Rye Golden Ale. That is all the information...
