Simple starter IPA for the wifey

I'm a BIAB brewer on my 4th batch. My intention is to brew an IPA for the wife. I would like to do a 2-2.5 gallon batch and use some grains I have left over from my previous batch. I have plenty of American 2-row pale malt and some 60L caramel, some flaked wheat and barley and some other odds...

    Heating device for Fermentation Chamber

Hello - I just bought a 7.1 cubic foot chest freezer and an Inkbird ITC-308 2-stage temperature controller. (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B011296704/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I'm using it currently as a fermentation chamber for my first all grain batch. Believe it or...

Yes. Working out the bugs (especially for warming) but this is what I have (trying to figure out images on this board):

Fermentation chamber first, keezer later for carbonating and serving after fermentation is done. Just until I can come up with a better way that fits in my limited space. I wish I had a basement! I think the tools here are great and as I learn to use them and keep careful notes, that should help...

Can't wait! I'll be kegging. I'm using the fermenting time to assemble my keg system. I have corny kegs and a tank. Just need some hose and parts. I have a freezer that will be doing double duty as a fermentation chamber/keezer for a while. Can't wait to see those bubbles!

First brew day complete! I ended up with a 1.059 OG. According to the Brew Session calculator that works out to 72%. If the math is right, I'm pretty pleased with that. I don't feel that I screwed anything up too badly (other than dropping the thermometer into the kettle during the mash). I...

I'm looking for it online. It is the "Oatis Brown Ale" from John Palmer's book. It's the one he suggests as the first all-grain batch.

I chose the BIAB method. Changing that between BIAB and all-grain doesn't seem to have an effect (if I'm understanding you correctly). I see what you mean by not just changing the efficiency, though. The gravity is just not reconciling with what Palmer came up with. I'm sure his recipe will...

I knocked the temp down to 152 as you suggested and my FG and ABV are now closer to what I was shooting for. Thank you. Wow...I've been on this forum less than an hour and I've already gotten awesome help. You guys rock!

Eureka! I wonder why the default is so low? Changing the efficiency seems to be it. I changed it to 65% as you suggested and it changed the gravity to 1.053 OG, 1.018 FG, and 4.5 ABV. That's a good spot to start tweaking. Thank you!

Hello...first post here. I'm doing my first BIAB brew this week. I chose the "Oatis Brown" recipe from John Palmer's "How to Brew" book. It's the recommended first recipe in Chapter 20. I thought I would punch the recipe into the Brewers Friend recipe editor just to learn how to use the tool...
