    Hazy IPA Question

2 lbs of flaked oats, and 3 lbs of oat malts. I also had 4 lbs of Marris Otter and 4 lbs pale ale malt. I added the amylase at about 144 degrees. I also did a 75 minute mash to give it a little extra time. I am guessing I probably needed to add more than just the 1/2 teaspoon that the package...

    Hazy IPA Question

Just finished my first attempt at a Hazy IPA. It did not go as planned. I went for a 146 degree mash. Undershot a little and ended up at 144. I am typically around 78-80% on my extract efficiency. I had about a 68% on this one. My grain bill was around 38% adjunct. I am guessing my efficiency...

    Pressure Fermentation Newbie here

I am just using a recipe that I have done before. I did it with that yeast before I tried pressure fermenting.

    Pressure Fermentation Newbie here

I just got my Spike Flex+ fermenter in, and I am looking to potentially pressure ferment for the first time. I was planning to use White Labs WLP 051 California V Ale yeast for a pretty basic Cream Ale recipe that I made. I have brewed the beer before with pretty good results. I have heard...

95% extract efficiency. Is that even possible?

Brewhouse efficiency is different than extract efficiency. Extract efficiency is only a percentage of sugars extracted. While brewhouse efficiency is a measure of the entire process. 90% isn't uncommon in electric/HERMS systems, but never seen anything that high with cooler systems. But 95% is...

95% extract efficiency. Is that even possible?

Yes, pre-boil. Post b Yes. Pre-Boil. I have seen people with HERMS get into the 90s. But I didn't think cooler systems typically got that high. This recipe was designed to get a pre-boil OG of 1.076 but got 1.088 instead.

95% extract efficiency. Is that even possible?

I just finished brewing a recipe that I found on Mobcraft Brewing. It is a maple vanilla porter (out of season, I know). I use two Igloo coolers for the mash and sparge. I am typically around 85% extract efficiency. Today my numbers read, 95%. During my brew session, I have a pump attached to...

    Creating an Electrical Brewery

After a lot of research, I have decided that I am going to build an electric brewery. I have a few questions though. First I currently have a basic brewers beast 16 gallon kettle with a triclad bottom. I use coolers for my mash and hot liquor tanks. Overall I have been impressed with my current...

    Extract to all grain conversion

Thanks everyone. I think I have a good starting point with the all grain now. I will tweak it each time to dial it in just right.

    Extract to all grain conversion

Thanks my fellow Louisianian, I will check it out. I think the specialty grains will be a little harder to dial in the correct amounts on and get the correct favor.

    Extract to all grain conversion

This may have been asked in here before, but I couldn't find it. I am looking for a good way to convert an extract recipe to an all grain. I have tried a beer from a brewers best kit: Sweet Dreams Almond Coconut Stout: http://brewersbestkits.com/assets/1032_sweetdreamsstout_recipe.pdf I first...

How can I store a yeast starter?

So when I am ready to use it, just take it out and let it go to room temperature before pitching?

How can I store a yeast starter?

I made a yeast starter about 24 hours ago. I intended to brew today, but some things came up and I was unable to brew as planned. Can it be stored? If so, for how long? Should I just store it in the refrigerator? When I get ready to use it (potentially next weekend), what do I need to do?

OG too high, already added yeast.

It was an extract. It had liquid extract at beginning and dry malt at the end with about 10 minutes left of boil.

OG too high, already added yeast.

What would cause that? Steeping too long? I have the appropriate amount of water based off of the recipee.

I used Omega Yeast Scottish Ale. I don’t have any left.

OG too high, already added yeast.

I am new to brewing and just started my second batch. I obviously have a lot to learn. Here is my issue. After boiling and transferring to my carbon, I added the water and took my hydrometer sample. However I did not take the reading until after I added the yeast. However, it is around 1.08 and...
