Better Fittings for Mash Tun (round cooler style)?

I'm building a new all grain setup using a few of the 10 gallon home depot round coolers. I HATE the flimsy feeling of the bulk head fitting when i'm opening and closing the valve. The flex of the bulk head makes me nervous especially when theres gallons of hot liquid in there. I also seem to...

New To Kegging and Getting All Foam!

Ok so admittedly I have watched the youtube videos on kegging and i feel like i'm doing it right but i'm ending up with ALL foam and by the time it all calms down and i work out a glass it's basically slightly carbed. Anyone want to give me a kegging for dummies bullet point? I'm at a loss here...

    My Yeast Woke Back Up?

So i took a sample from my Pliny clone today and at the same pulled a jar full of trub off the bottom (it's a Catalyst fermenter). Before the sample and trub pull, fermentation was basically at a stand still 1.01 but then after i buttoned it all back up it started bubbling away again?! What gives?

Consistent Mystery Flavor in Extract Brews

When I first started brewing i of course started with extract brews. One of the things i noticed was this consistent flavor that existed from brew to brew. It's hard to describe but I when I moved to all grain the flavor wasn't present in those brews. I recently helped a friend start brewing and...

Why No "Dry Hop Addition" steps?

Seems like there should be a dry hop addition step in the brewing steps. Of course i can do an other log addition but since most brews call for dry hopping why not add it?

When Do You Consider Fermentation Done?

I'm always hesitant to call fermentation done when i'm getting gas bubbles every 15-20 seconds but perhaps most people would consider fermentation done at that point. Other than being abundantly cautious it'd be great to hear from you all what your take on this is. If i could rack it off sooner...

Cone vs. Pellet - Which leads to less trub after boil and how to combat the "gunk"

My past few brew sessions i've used pellets instead of cones. I'm testing the idea that maybe pellets give up more of their AA's during boil than cones simply because there is more surface area of a dissolved pellet being exposed to the boil. What I've noticed is that I have a METRIC TON of trub...

Forgot to add Dextrose During Boil Can I Add During Fermentation?

So I brewed the Pliny clone this week and forgot to add the dextrose at the start of the boil. The brew is at +2 days from pitching and it's super active right now. I'm wondering if i could boil up the corn sugar and pitch it. My OG was 1.05 after collecting the wort and it should have been...
