Hi - great site! (but worried about the future...)

Beersmith is a... challenge. It just tries to do so much and the UI/UX is difficult. BF is a well-written, good looking, appropriately scoped product. Works as well on my linux desktop as my wife's Macbook Air which I sneak out in the garage for brew day.

No-Sparge BW Recipe - Pls Help

Also due to the high gravity, a BW isn't the best candidate for no sparge. You end up leaving a massive amount of sugar in the tun especially with higher gravity beers. Hold on a second, at the end of the recipe it says this: No sparge is just that, no sparge. If you're taking second running...

    Chill Haze

I tend not to worry about haze as I have never (OK, rarely) not had it drop out over time. That being said, I have gotten into the habit of dropping in half a whirlfloc tablet toward the end -- say at the 10 minute mark -- of the boil. End up costing about a dime per batch. Does it work...

Austin, To allay our fears/concerns can you provide a brief CV regarding your past development efforts? What languages are you proficient in? Do you have a preferred JavaScript framework? What about database development? Enquiring minds want to know. Eric

    Question about chillers

My protocol w/ the chiller is this: I always paint strainer bag my hops. Never had a clogging problem. I flush backward and forward after brewing. Before each brew I put it in the over for 30 mins at 350 to (hopefull) kill and bugs. About every five brews I clean with sodium hydroxide...

    Mash tun build

Bit late to the party. I concur with many others -- picnic cooler and cpvc manifold. I opted for the Coleman Extrere 70 quart. Only complaint is that on small beers the grainbed can be a bit thin. Here's my manifold (bottom view) I've seen the cooler at Walmart for as low as $35 on sale...

    Eric from Indy

Long, long time homebrewer. Started in 1989 doing extracts / partials. My first brewing text was Cat's Meow Version 1 (I'm an old guy). There really was not internet as we now know it. Compuserve and Usenet (using Trumpet reader if anyone remembers back that far) were my friends. Got married...

How to use Recipe tool for ciders

Cider is very difficult to make using a recipe generator since there is no standard juice sugar content. The juice I source from Costco off-season is very different than the raw cider I get from my LHBS. Of course the sugar I add to top up the gravity is the same!

    Question about chillers

Have you considered a plate chiller? Considering the price of copper it's quite price-competitive and the performance cant be beat.

    Add DME additions feature

Oh I never miss my gravity  but if I did I'd love to have this feature!

    No Sparge on-the-fly calculator

I've been doing more and more no sparge brewing. It would be nice to have an option to run no-sparge calculations on an existing grain bill to arrive at the new no-sparge grain amounts.
