    My Noobie Red Ale

So 2 days of cold crashing and then bottle? Today will be the 3rd day for dry hopping. There is still a layer of green on the top.

    My Noobie Red Ale

Yeah, I was really happy to see it so clear! I am anxious for the dry hops to finish falling and settling so it will clear up again. Anyone know how long this might take? I was hoping no more than 3 days so I can bottle. My understanding is that dry hopping is for aroma, not flavor. Is this...

    My Noobie Red Ale

Yup! I took a sip of it and it was good flavor but the aroma was off so thats why I wanted to dry hop it. Its my Hoppy Red Ale!!

    My Noobie Red Ale

Oh...I could have used that info yesterday. I put 1 oz. in already. I dropped it in so I need to let it settle before bottling.

    My Noobie Red Ale

I think I am going to dry hop some Falconers flight for a few days before bottling. I am looking to add 1oz. for one week. Thoughts?

    My Noobie Red Ale

So I am thinking of going ahead and bottling this up. It has only been 2 weeks but my readings havent changed in 7 days. What are your thoughts? Should I leave it alone for another week? What are the reasons?

    10 gallon batches

15 gal boiled down to 10? How long of a boil is that? Nevermind, I read that as you were going for a 15 gal boil and not that you were using a 15 gal kettle.

Sweet!! I hope to be doing some competitions in the near future myself. I have a lot of stiff competition here in Fort Collins though.

    BIAB

I am getting about 69-70% eff from my biab by squeezing but also having my old 5gal pot to put my bag in when I pull it. I will pour hot water over the bag and use it like a sparge. Open it up over the edges of the kettle and pour and stir. I use a large slotted metal spoon to disperse the water...

    BIAB

One thing I learned my first time biab is to get or make a false bottom for your kettle. I used one of these. Snapped the pin and legs off and flipped it upside down.

    My Noobie Red Ale

This is after 7 days of good solid fermentation! I moved it to a secondary and looking forward to bottling in a few weeks. I let it go at 68 degrees for the first day and then swamp coolered it to get it down to 61 degrees and will keep it there for the remainder.

    My Noobie Red Ale

    My Noobie Red Ale

So I have started another batch and this time I went for an American Amber Ale. I did forget to put in Irish Moss but I think I will fine it with Gelatin unless someone has a better idea. I will be transferring to a secondary after 7-10 days pending. It looks like I am getting 69% efficiency...

    I visited a brewery today!

Right! Its like a weird wonderful place! I am surrounded by at least 10 breweries within 10 miles of my house and maybe 20-30 if you add another 10 miles to the radius. Love it!
