    Strike water volume

I created my own inventory because I wanted to track my on-hand ingredients. But I was not able to locate ingredients in the default inventory. For example: I just tried to add a new inventory item. I found Rahr. I did not find 2-row. So that is why I created my own. I'm using 1.83 qts/lb. I...

    Strike water volume

Using the default ingredients, I see a 10 point drop in OG and the strike water volume increases to 2.36 gallons. My target strike water volume is 3.2 gallons.

    Strike water volume

I've changed all of my Fermentable inventory to "Mash", went back into the recipe, and in the Brew Session, the Brew Steps show the same amount of Strike Water Volume of 0.56 gallons. Where in the Edit Recipe page would I mark "mash" or "not mash"? Is that the Late Addition checkbox?

    Strike water volume

Okay. I see that I need to update my inventory to mark the checkbox for "mash". I will do that now. As an all-grain brewer, I can't think of very many Fermentables that would not be included in the mash. I would think that the inverse would be more intuitive: To have Fermentables default to be...

    Strike water volume

If I understand, when I add Inventory, I need to select the checkbox "Needs to be mashed". Is this correct?

    Strike water volume

My equipment profile shows: I created a copy of the recipe so that I could test some changes and results. That copied recipe shows: So it appears that despite the default value in the equipment profile, I need to overwrite the recipe's Starting Mash Thickness. I missed this upon writing the...

    Strike water volume

Can I change the calculation in equipment profiles for Strike Water Volume as shown in the Brew Steps? Mine is showing 0.66 gallons of strike water for 7 pounds of grain. That's a thick mash!

Grainfather: how can you easily place the bottom filter?

I've always had good luck spraying Star San in the mash tun for lubrication. Insert the plate vertically almost to the bottom, and turn the plate flat, pressing gently around the plate seal to seat it. I rarely have the seal pop off.

    Bread Thread!

I'm coming in a little late on this conversation. Hope that's okay. I recently had success on my third attempt to create a sourdough starter. The first two didn't work out. On the third attempt, I followed King Arthur's directions. My starter took several more days than the directions...

    Fermentables: Goal and Percentages

Understood! That brings up a question: When percentages are provided for a recommended recipe as I described, are those percentages of weight or of extract (gravity contributions)? I see and hear these percentages for recipe design frequently in articles and on podcasts. This one was obtained...

    Fermentables: Goal and Percentages

Looking for some clarification or direction... I'm building a recipe based on recommendations of percentages. My goal is 1.060 OG. I want the following: 75% base malt 8% another base malt 8% caramel malt 8% another caramel malt 1% roast malt I set the goal at 1.060, and set each percentage...

    Error with Strike water volume

My mash thickness is set at 1.83 quarts per pound: For 7.75 pounds of grain, Brew steps provide the following: Log entries provide the following efficiencies: I'm assuming that the strike water volume error is causing the strangely inaccurate efficiencies. Any help here?

I also noticed an issue when using the Grainfather. I assume that other similar systems may have this issue as well. I cannot determine Total Mash Volume in the Grainfather. There are no volume measurements inside the mash basket. I'm currently brewing an ordinary bitter. Regardless of whether...

    Yeast Type Changes

Having same issue. Created recipe on iPhone on Safari and viewed next day on iPad on Safari to find that my saison recipe using Danstar Belle Saison changed to White Labs East Coast Ale. Changed back to Belle and saved again, repeated three times, each time to find I'm back to a White Labs...
