Cascade is my #1. However, I have an IPA aging now made with Pacific Jade. The taste I had when i racked it to secondary may make it a new #1.

    Yeast Starter Question

I had planned on brewing last night. However, due to sick kids and other non beer drinking related things I was unable to get out there. So here is the issue: I "brewed" up my yeast starter on Saturday afternoon. It's been sitting on my stir plate since and looks ok to me. How long can I...

    How often do you brew?

I try to do 1 a month. But I also have 3 kids under 4....So time is hard to find. I'm going to start my oatmeal stout tonight after everyone goes to bed. Brewing outside in the dark is the best.

How long is too long in fermentation?

Personally 6 weeks in secondary is my max for any of my beers (all ales). I also don't dry hop for more than 10 days and its always at the end. I agree that you should take the hops out. You will start to get a grassy taste if they are in there for more than 14 days.

    Return to the site

Hello all, I am finally returning to the site. I've been a bit busy in the past months with personal stuff (new addition to the family) but haven't stopped brewing. I return to the surprise of new management and have been reading quite a bit about what is going on. I would like to offer my...

    Pumpkin Ale

The below recipe is what I will be brewing next weekend. It's based off a friend's recipe and I haven't brewed it before so it isn't shared. I am especially excited about the bottling sequence that I have in there. Grabbed it from another recipe b/c i thought it was a good idea. Just...

    (DONE) Labelling?

Re: Labelling? I agree with you that you can't support all. Probably the best thing would be to have a button that will put the info that one is looking for in a word doc. Then you can copy and paste that into the template or do whatever you want.

    What was your last batch?

I've got a Hop Head Double IPA in the fridge now. Razzleberry Wheat in Secondary and brewed a Boston Ale last night. I will head to the brew shop tomorrow to grab ingredients for a pumpkin ale that I will brew this weekend. I love brewing.....

    (DONE) Labelling?

Re: Labelling? I would like to see a button on the recipe editor or brew sessions to print out labels. It would save me some time.

    Fruit Beer Fermentation

I moved the batch to secondary and put in 2.5 lbs of frozen raspberries. I took a swig and it was already fruity. I think I might of over done it with the fruit. Of course I didn't taste before I started racking it. This is going to be interesting. Another 1 1/2 weeks and I will bottle.

    (DONE) Labelling?

Re: Labelling? I use basic address labels from Avery. I run them through my printer and put on them what is important for that beer. Name, ABV, bottling date and my "logo". The best part is that they come off real easy when I want them to and not when they shouldn't. I've seen a bunch of...

    Fruit Beer Fermentation

From what I have read freezing kills anything that could be an issue. I guess we will just have to wait and see. I will sneak a sample for testing and tasting when I rack it to secondary this weekend.

    Fruit Beer Fermentation

Interesting thoughts. I agree with getting it off the fruit. I was definitely going to wait for active fermentation to complete before racking it off. I guess I can finally use my better bottle that came with my kit. About re-fruiting, do you think I should stick with the puree or go with...

    Fruit Beer Fermentation

Anyone want to give me your thoughts on should I rack my fruit beer to secondary? I'm not opening the single vs 2 stage fermentation, I've read enough of those. Do you think that this recipe will benefit from being taken off the fruit after 7 days or to leave it the full 3 weeks? Basic Wheat...

    Airlock Disaster

Thanks Altbier. I've read a number of articles and how to's (including this site) on blow offs. But you know while reading them I always wondered when one would need it. Well I know now. It seems that I overreacted a little bit. It's now a little more than 12 hours since and all is well...

    Airlock Disaster

Noob question: So I brewed my raspberry beer this weekend. On Sunday I put my brew (basic wheat -extract) in the primary bucket with a 3 piece airlock. Along with this I added 2.5 lbs of pureed raspberries. I checked my bucket yesterday and all was well. Bubbling along as expected. Then...

    Adding body

That's good news. I have picked up all my ingredients including .75lbs melanoidin. I had planned on brewing it today but I ran out of time. -Adam
