    What's your next brew

Pumpkin ale update - turned out great! Getting a nice pumpkin flavor and aroma reminiscent of pumpkin pie. Got this keg in my keezer just in time for the holidays.

    German Helles Lager

Update on my German Helles lager - it turned out fantastic! It tastes just like the beer you get at the Hofbrauhaus. It lagered for a month in a corny keg blanketed with CO2 in my freezing cold garage and I just finished force carbonating it. The beer is sitting in my keezer ready for the...

Decoction or Not? Brewing a German Helles

Thanks. My first marzen lager was fermented in a swamp cooler and turned out fine, from a fermentation perspective. You are right. I have been experimenting with 5 gallon pales of water in my chamber and the temp deltas are all over the map. My thermostat will read 60 degrees and the water will...

Decoction or Not? Brewing a German Helles

I have read where people say to decoct lagers especially, darker lagers to help with attenuation and to build layers of malt flavor. I plan to brew a Helles style and can't decide if I should utilize a single or double decoction to give the beer some extra body and flavor. I worry about making...

    German Helles Lager

Gosh that looks good. The color is perfect and the head looks picture perfect. Almost looks like whipped cream in top. So the Carahell and Caramunich don't add too much color or sweetness?

    German Helles Lager

Looking for some advice in a recipe for a German Helles style lager. What would you use as your grain bill? I'm thinking mostly pilsner malt, but should I add a bit of Munich malt, carapils or melanoidin malts? What percentages would you utilize?

    Fermenting lager yeast

Anyone have experience with fermenting a traditional German Helles style lager? I have a homemade fermentation chamber that utilizes frozen milk jugs and it works well for ales, especially getting temps down to the low to mid 60s. Wondering if I could get away with fermenting a lager using more...

Yeast not saving on recipe builder

Anyone else notice that whenever you add a certain yeast strain on the recipe builder that it does not stay after saving then viewing the recipe?

    Pumpkin Ale

I'm at day 7 with my primary fermentation of a pumpkin ale. I used 2 luge cans of puréed pumpkin vs. fresh. Looks great. I'm sure it will be good. I added a vanilla bean and used a little biscuit malt, but my recipe is very similar. What yeast strain are you using? I used Wyeast 1056.

    Keezer Build

I love drinking beer from keg that been properly carbonated and is nice and cold. There's just something almost magical watching beer you helped create being poured from a tap. I think it's one of the things I enjoy most next to watching the yeast go nuts during primary fermentation. I still use...

    Keezer Build

I am about half finished with my keezer build. It will hold anywhere from 3-5 kegs. Stay tuned for my latest pictures. I couldn't believe how fast the cost of the parts added up. The faucets alone ran me close to $300! They should last me a long time though and give me many many years of...

    What's your next brew

My next brew will be a pumpkin ale. Made my yeast starter today using Wyeast 1056 and will be ready to pitch by the weekend. This is my favorite time of year for brewing, but then again anytime is always my favorite as long as I have something bubbling away on the fermenter.

Oily film on top of fermenting beer

It's really not something that shows up unless you look closely. It just looks like vegetable oil floating on top. Could this be oils released from dry hopping?

    Zombie Dust or Bust

Just racked the beer to my keg today and tasted it. Should be a real nice smooth drinking brew that is citra hop-forward. So far, I'm quite happy with the results. I might make a few slight tweaks next brew session, but I think this is a solid beer especially after having had the privilege of...

    NEIPA Brew Session

It was slow going racking from the primary to my secondary fermenter. I did encounter a clog or two using my auto siphon and I even used bags for my dry hop additions. The beer seems to have settled quite a bit sitting in the secondary. I had several inches of trub on the bottom of the primary...
