    Digital Taplist

Howdy. This is an old thread, but I've recently been using Taplist.io and agree that BF could use a taplist just as described in this thread.

    Harvesting yeast after fining

I've done that a few times and never thought to wonder if gelatin has any sort of effect. I guess it doesn't because it has worked for me! That said, I've pretty much stopped harvesting. It's much easier to simply make a larger starter and save some of that starter for your next batch. For an...

    Carbonation

200+ batches and I also use the dishwasher-only so no problems there. I've also rarely had a batch that wasn't carbonated by 2 weeks. MAYBE 3 or 4 batches were better at 3 weeks but "5 weeks" or more is silly. :) I always try one at 1 week and am often pleased with the carbonation even then...

    Audible timer request

    Great. Thanks!

    Audible timer request

This is my once-every-couple-of-months-or-so request to either change the timer beeps to a lower frequency or give us the ability to choose our own sounds. The brew timers are simply worthless for those of us over 50 who abused our younger ears and cannot hear high frequencies. I have to...

Conversion vs. "pre-boil" efficiency for BIAB

Trailben, I think you're technically correct, but in the end, it's still the same reading. Again, according to BF website: 1) Conversion Efficiency: The percentage of total available sugars that were extracted from the grains inside the mash tun. Measurement Option B - blend of runnings...

Conversion vs. "pre-boil" efficiency for BIAB

I guess I answered my own question. According to the BF website, the "conversion" and "pre-boil" are, in fact, the same reading for BIAB people. I was getting blasted on a Facebook page for stating that they were the same reading. I win. ;) 1) Conversion Efficiency: The percentage of total...

Conversion vs. "pre-boil" efficiency for BIAB

How are you BIAB people measuring "conversion" versus "pre-boil" gravity for BIAB? I've been using BF for a couple of years and have always pulled the bag, squeeze, then enter the same number for my conversion and pre-boil gravity. A "eureka" moment caused me to ponder the fact that I've been...

    Can't hear alarms

Or something. If I'm right smack in the front of the computer and looking at it when it goes off, I can hear it. But if I so much as turn my head, I get nothing.

    Can't hear alarms

Those of us over a certain age simply cannot hear the beep at the end of a timer. It is too high pitched. Also, it goes off for, what, a second never to be heard from again. Is there a way to make an audible alarm that keeps beeping at a lower frequency?

Late fermentable additions and "expected" boil gravity.

And I'm not an IT guy, Jeffpn!, I own an IT company. Big diff! . . . That my excuse, anyway. I somehow never saw that obnoxiously obvious, clear-as-day arrow on the left. Thanks all.

Late fermentable additions and "expected" boil gravity.

"click the arrow to the left" Shit.

Late fermentable additions and "expected" boil gravity.

What the hell? I don't have that option on the desktop version.

Late fermentable additions and "expected" boil gravity.

OK, so I have the occasional brew that requires a late addition of sugar. The latest was a dubble that added 1lb of dark candi sugar in the last 5 minutes (the previous was a Pliny clone with 1lb of corn sugar). The problem is this: When I built the recipe, it calculates my "Boil gravity" as...

No sound on Windows RT or Chromebook

I found the problem: I am old. I had a jamming stereo in my car when I was young. I can't hear high pitched noises unless I put my ear right next to the speaker. I just tried it on my big home computer with the volume all the way up and could just pick out the sound if I turned my head the...

No sound on Windows RT or Chromebook

Hi, I have not tried this on a standard Win10/7 system, but in my brewery, I use either a Win RT or Chromebook. Neither gives a chime when the timers run out. Sound works on everything else. I'm a computer tech so know my way around but I've checked the obvious causes to no avail. Does BF...

    Wort shrinkage

"So, theoretically I have more volume going into my chiller than coming out, 4% seems to be very close." It could be that I'm misunderstanding you, but 4% is pretty much dead on target for the reduction in measured volume from boiling to ambient temps. That percentage can be adjusted in the...

    BIAB Question

Investing in a grain mill and crushing the grain twice on the lowest setting increased my BIAB efficiency tremendously. I typically get 75 to 80% brewhouse efficiency.
