    Relative Bitterness Ratio (RBR)

I just read an interesting article on an alternate method for defining bitterness (http://www.pencilandspoon.com/2012/11/f ... -bugu.html ). In general the logic of the calculation makes sense to me, but I haven't had a chance to compare a few batches to see if I agree. Has anyone else used...

    Brewing with chili / chipotle

For those interested, I "diluted" the spicy Brown with another 2 L of the Big Bottle Red ale, and then another 4 L of an Amber I had going already. I now like it and the heat is good - so I can drink more than one at a time. So, for those keeping track, following the dilution it works out to...

    Peach IPA

:). Slight redirection here, I'm not actually trying to create a peach IPA for the purposes of taste (ie. not looking for other ways to get a peach flavour), I'm trying to "get rid of" a basket of peaches I was given, and my approach to disposal of anything with sugar in it is to find a beer...

    Peach IPA

I've seen a couple of recipes suggesting a ratio of 3-4 lbs of peaches per 23 L batch is a good concentration of peaches to use. I am using full peaches, not canned purée, do I need to peel them? I know that the peels of some fruit can affect the flavour and haven't seen anything in the peach...

(DONE) add bottling date to label generator

Re: add bottling date to label generator I'm with you 100% on this request. I'm waiting for the label tool to use the actual measured results for the label rather than the expected output from the recipe, but I agree that the label should also include the bottling date and a short description...

    Brewing with chili / chipotle

Well, I tried this using a "test batch", a 2 L bottle of "Big & Easy Bottle Brew" Brown Ale as a base (http://www.brewerylane.com/beer/Big-and ... -brew.html). I added 15 g of frozen and crushed Jalapeno peppers (the kind that come chopped up in a jar). It tastes very good, but the afterburn...

    Brewing with chili / chipotle

I was at the Toronto Cask Days event last year (http://caskdays.com/brews ) and had a sample of the "Call of Brewty" offering from Black Oaks. It was not something I would drink regularly (actually it burned off a lot of my taste buds!) but I would like to try a 'hot' beer with some chili...

    (DONE) generic beer label generator

Just printed my first page....but I think I did something wrong - the link to the label section is on the Brew Session page in the last box which includes all my actual measured results, but the stats shown on my labels are not from my actual brew but are from the expected output based on the...

    (DONE) generic beer label generator

Love the generic label generator! Only suggestion (and you are probably already on it) is to allow a different image from my profile pic....

    Anyone *legally* selling their brew?

There is a small Scottish Pub in our small rural town (Canada, just north of Toronto, Ontario) and I was wondering about the legal requirements around them being able to sell their own home brew (they don't do this today). I've done a little bit of digging and it seems possible - most of the...

(DONE) New home page and social sharing buttons

Re: (LAUNCH) New home page and social sharing buttons Just in case you haven't heard this enough - love the site. Suggestion: when doing brew log entries, include Twitter, Facebook, Evernote, <or whatever> checkboxes so I can have my log entry shared through my social media portals also...

Any reason NOT to swirl the primary after ~1 day?

I see all this yummy yeast fodder at the bottom of my carboy and wonder if there is any reason I would NOT want to swirl things around a bit within the first 1-2 days of my primary fermentation to let the yeast get at all the good stuff - any problems with doing this?

Need a recipe for steel cut oats

I accidentally bought a 680 g bag of "Bobs Red Mill Old Fashioned Steel Cut Oats", or per the bag aka Irish Oats or Pinhead Oats (trying to make bacon butterscotch cookies - which are yummy by the way). Any suggestions for how I can prepare these oats to use in a brew? Boil? Steep? Or...

    (DONE) bottling calculator suggestion

Re: bottling calculator suggestion Yes to pretty much all of the quoted stuff (I am also in Canada and constantly use Google to convert between US, Imperial, and metric...) BUT that's not why I'm commenting on a "closed" thread... I might have missed it but is there a section for logging how...

(DONE) Include ABV% calculation in "Sample" log type

Re: Include ABV% calculation in "Sample" log type That would be perfect for my needs. At the end of the day the "final" is the only one that matters but sometimes getting a check when racking midway through the process is a good idea. Thanks so much for the prompt reply!

(DONE) Include ABV% calculation in "Sample" log type

As far as I can tell the only time that the ABV% is calculated is after "Final Fermentation Complete" log entry type is selected. Would like to have and ABV% (and attenuation%??) calculated for the "Sample" log entry type also, so I know how things are going when I take sample readings during...

    Recipe images (labels)

Along the same lines as this stream, but more basic - suggest an automatically generated "basic" default label that contains the key brewing information; ABV%, Brew date, Bottle date, "name", etc. from the batch being brewed. Ideally this default label would be tailored to the brew style...

    batch cost tracking

I'm new to the site and still getting use to the recipe builder (fairly awesome as far as I can tell so far - great job!), but I've already started putting the ingredient costs in the notes for items in my inventory. I'm putting the real cost in the notes (ie. $3 for 2 lb bag of flaked oats)...
