    Apple Cinnamon Ale

I wasn't able to try it, so any feedback would be amazing. Was it missing something in the flavor? If I could get closer on my first try I would be happier. Thanks!

    what yeast should i use??

The cool thing about this recipe maker is if you punch in your ingredients and look at the hit the more stats button you can see what styles your numbers represent. Yours returns a traditional bock, though the grain selection might not match. At a cursory glance in the interwebs we have a few...

    New APA extract recipe.

Boil time is 60 minutes, but the longest hop addition is 20 minutes. You can shorten your boil time to 20 minutes and should have no ill effects. Especially since you're pretty much just using malt extracts. Though you'll probably need to add all of your extracts in at once.

    holiday ale

It's possible the whiskey is there to sanitize the oak chips. I usually just dump it all in.

    Such high hopes!

From my experience (which isn't much) that little amount would add a small bit of sweetness and some color, but it could be a bit more sharp which *might* help him get a tad more bite in his recipe (unproven by myself).

    Such high hopes!

In response to help improve the recipe, here's what I'd do (by no counts is it right or what anyone else would do, but just me). 1. I would kill the addition of the 2-row grains as it's unnecessary. That is unless you're actually doing a partial mash (which you sort of are, but aren't); in that...

    Such high hopes!

If you're just starting on the brewing/recipe formulation I would recommend using kits (or just copying them as most post their recipes). They're proven and easy to help get the basics down pat. Then branch into building your own based on what you've learned by brewing them. Again, just one...

    Apple Cinnamon Ale

Yeah, it'll be preservative free; it's apple season around here and it's super easy (and sometimes cheap) to get. The frozen stuff doesn't need to be preservative free because it's just going into the keg. That's just to add some of the apple flavor (and sweetness) back in if it's too mild. I...

    Apple Cinnamon Ale

It would be easy enough to add the molasses to the primary if I think it's lacking in that way.

    Apple Cinnamon Ale

I'm working on making an Apple Cinnamon Ale for a halloween party, and I'd like any feedback on the recipe. I don't remember the original recipe, but I altered it a bit from that anyway. I'm thinking a malty, spicy, appley flavor. I'm looking for notes on grain choices, balance of the flavors...

    Chill Time

Make sure you open the water up full blast and stir the wort while chilling. The stirring will help put warmer wort next to the chiller and move the colder stuff away. From the following page. http://brulosophy.com/2014/12/22/18-ideas-to-help-simplify-your-brew-day/ " Utilize Proper Chilling...

    would like feedback

I can't imagine you need to boil it for long, especially if you are using malt extracts. I would probably do what I do for starters and boil it for about 10-20 minutes.

    Tap cleaning

I made one of the cleaners in the following link. It was pretty cheap and it works wonders. I usually just run some BLC solution then I'll run one or two tanks worth of water through. http://www.homebrewtalk.com/showthread.php?t=226497 [Edit] Also, I usually only clean between kegs (or less...

All Grain Brewing as an entry point

While I've never performed Brew in a Bag I think that it's a great starting point for a new brewer. It's a smaller equipment cost and gets you going into full grain right away. You might never go to 'traditional' full grain either. While there's nothing wrong with extract brewing if you're...

    Out of CO2

Luckily I know a liquor store/brew shop that has CO2 exchange and they're open until at least midnight. They're there for emergencies. :)

    what chiller to use

I have a plate chiller now, I just got a pump for it and the first time I got super clogged with hops and such. I didn't account for this and now I'll need a filter of sorts. I'm still contemplating an immersion chiller for all the reasons in the previously stated article.

Hitting the proper yeast cells with a starter or not

Another option is to have the yeast starter calculator as another tab in the brew session. Sort of like the mash calculator and the water chemistry. This allows you to customize it for each brew session as the freshness of the yeast will likely be different for each brew session.

How do you account for water under false bottom?

You could artificially increase the mash thickness in your profile to something a bit higher than you normally use (calculate to find what the increase is based on your batch size). When you make a recipe it will use this thickness giving you an increase in the strike water. That way you'll have...
