Depends on the stainless. 304 and 316 to a lesser degree are supposed to be magnetic. My SS brewtech kettles say 304 and are not magnetic except...
Current ground water. About 7 degrees C or so. In the Winter it's down around 4 C a lot.
Now if you lived near a great lake you could get some cold water. :)
