If you dry hopped without a bag and want to harvest yeast you can wash the yeast before using. Just google yeast washing if interested.
My latest batch is a no boil extract. Just whirpooled at 170 for 30 minutes.
Nothing wrong with challenging tradition. They are doing a great job figuring out what is and isn't important at the home brew scale.
