    Coconut sugar...yay or nay?

Hello brewing brethren. I hope you are all well. I have been reading the odd post about Coconut Stout. I found this coconut sugar in the supermarket and thought of the possibilities of using 250g to dry out an Oatmeal stout/porter. Recipe is below: <iframe width="100%" height="500px"...

    A non boil Kvas brew

So just sharing the results of my experiment a few weeks ago. Very interesting. I decided to give Kvas a go. It's a drink made from left-over bread. Much how I imagine ale to be like a very long time ago. Anyway, this was not a scientific experiment, so you will have to forgive my lack of rigour...

Just found I over did it with watering back with cold water. My OG is way off. Who said session NEIPA's weren't a thing anyway?

    Culturing yeast from bottles

Thanks Nosybear. I see what you are saying. It's just a convenience thing, tbh. When I brew up using this yeast it will be with a more simple, much less hoppy wort. Like you say the flavour profile may get lost in the hops otherwise. Not even sure that I will have enough yeast from this 2-5...

    Culturing yeast from bottles

Thanks Bubba and Trial Ben. I am going to let my blend of recovered yeast loose in a very small batch of NEIPA wort and see what it does. I haven't been ultra-sanitary, so it may already be too late this time around. I will bottle up a few and leave the rest on the cake while the test batch...

    Culturing yeast from bottles

My plan is to add this mixture to a little wort from next brew on Wednesday to make a starter/ mini 5 litre batch of a weird NEIPA (without the copious dry hopping) with Belgian yeast.

    Culturing yeast from bottles

Hello brewing brethren. I had some Belgian beers recently and thought I might try to culture some of the yeast from the bottom of the bottles and mix it in with some of my Saison yeast (that I will also recover from bottles). At the moment, I have just swirled the bottles with warm water and...

    Phenol ??

I am a bit similar to you with the wasting water issue. My answer....a kind of 'no chill ' method. Chill 3-4 two litre bottles of cheap spring water in the fridge a few days before then fill the well sanitised FV with it and then empty the wort from the mash tun (I boil and mash in the same...

    A return to brewing...NEIPA?

Just jumping in here as my next brew is an Oat NEIPA. On the dry hopping front, I am a fan of '"just chuck 'em in". But, what are your thoughts on the hops being in there too long? They'll be in there for 12 days or more. Usual thoughts are 3 days to avoid the grassy taste. I have left an aroma...

Cloudy Flat Beer - Can anyone help?

Never got good head retention before using oats and seem to have had much better results since. I just mash 'em. Put them in first though. I have heard about soaking them but only did this once. With everything going just can't be bothered with another thing to do/ forget:D

Cloudy Flat Beer - Can anyone help?

I don't use the same equipment. I always bottle. My first few brews weren't great for head retention. Make sure your grain bill has got some wheat or oats in for this. There are other grains that probably do it too (e.g Carafoam...pretty sure I didn't just make that up!). Bottles are always...

    Endeavor hops

Well, bottled my first batch that had this as dry hop along with Citra and Cascade. This pretty much was the dominant aroma. Citra was there but the berries aroma from this was definitely in the foreground. Can't wait to see the result and then use for bittering and flavour in my next brew.

    Mango Jack's Saison yeast

Two weeks + after bottling and this beer is evolving. At first it really tasted like a Belgian Blonde ale. Now, it is definitely different. I can definitely taste a peppery and spicy element more in the foreground now. Still a bit fruity with lots of phenols. I have to say I absolutely love it...

    Endeavor hops

Thanks Yooper. I will just add it as a unique hop. I wasn't aware of that actually. Now I know. I think they will release it as some big breweries here have used, or so they say. Anyway, for now I think 'my unique hop' is fine.

    Brewing at ≥27°C (≥81°F)

I am having trouble keeping my fermentor cool at the moment, so I feel your pain. I am using a damp towel draped over my fermentor with the end of the towel in a bucket of water. Not sure how effective this will be though... I brewed a Saison recently which has blown my mind. I think you can use...

    Endeavor hops

@Yooper if you could add this hop, I can update my recipe with it. Will report back on it as I work my way through my 500g. It is a new...not yet officially released hop by all accounts.
