One of my all time favorite beers is the Brown Ale from Legends in Richmond, VA. I was wondering if anyone had a recipe for this beer? I've searched around but apparently the brewers are pretty tight lipped about this one.
Thanks,
Mike

A great brew indeed. My kid turned me on to it while doing undergrad work there in Richmond.

I found a clone recipe for it somewhere...I don't think on here and wrote it down and tucked it away but have not had the chance to try it out. Here's the basics for an all grain 5 gallon batch:

10.5 # Maris Otter 2 row
1 # Crystal 60L
.25 # Chocolate 412srm
.25 # Cara-Munich 56srm
1 oz Tett 5.2%aa 60 minute
1 oz Mt. Hood 4%aa 60 minute
Yeast was either Wyeast1098 or Safale 04

Mash at 152 for 90 minutes,
Ferment high at 70 to 72
OG 1056 to 1060
5.8 abv

Go for it..let us know how it does!

Funny thing is that after I started homebrewing, none of my commercial "go to's" ever tasted the same including Legend

Excellent. Thank you very much. I will definitely let you know how it turns out.
Thanks again,
Mike

You are absolutely right. This recipe is fantastic and I agree it is better then Legends. I followed your recipe, with the exception of accidentally using Chocolate wheat malt instead of Chocolate malt. I am really enjoying this beer.
Thank you,
Mike

My wife loves this beer, looks like i found my next brew.

Awesome! Was it the same malt-forward finish?
