I brewed today!

Finally got around to brewing the Nautical Star... Had a few mishaps, likely the result of not having brewed for a while (and being quite out of practice). Lessons-learned: I need to get tri-clamps to run from the source to the pump to keep it from sucking air. Everything else seems to be doing okay, only that one run is letting air in. Worries me when I do a really pale beer. And don't try to run chill water through a frozen hose. Still, it should work out okay.

First extract-steep batch in forever, I did the Cranberry Belgian Ale. It was quite the relaxing brew day! Being a somewhat more advanced brewer than many who do extract-steep, I was able to do a few things a less experienced brewer might not, for example, oxygenating the wort rather than aerating it. I need this to be done by Thanksgiving so.... Will add 10 ounces of 100% cranberry juice to the fermentor in three days to complete the beer. And I have to admit, smaller batches are quite nice - I may be a BIAB convert to do three gallons at a time!

That brew is in the fermentor sitting at 36c I doubled up on whirlpool ginger 100g ended up adding 300g of flaked barley too. Wort had a nice orange tan to it compared to last run. Sample tastes sweet and has a pleasant gingery aroma and taste. All up to kviek now to do it's thing.

A pretty little grist pic

Been looking at those fermenters. Looks like a sweet setup.
The Sgt. Major told me that brewery upgrades are on hold for a while. She has me changing out a couple of interior doors and installing new flooring in a walk-in closet, a short hallway and the master bath to earn my privileges again. If it's anything like the last job she handed me, it's gonna be the new year by the time it's all said and done:( Maybe I shouldn't have retired.

Well when you get all that done bob i don't have the fermentasaur but these pressure units are worth it!

Think of it like a motivator other than beer to get these renos done:).

Just finished up the ESB I posted on earlier - boil porn. Had a weird experience: Started chilling and left for dinner with son-in-law/daughter/grandkids. Got back and the pot was full of foam! Something clogged or started sucking air. Anyway, we'll see how it comes out - I pitched it without O2 figuring it was aerated enough.

Brewed a neipa last night. I was over volume and under gravity, need to review my profile. I think that I need to reduce my grain absorption value, to reduce total water volume.

The spoils from last night, should have boiled longer, the black piece of tape on the second picture is my 5.5g mark. OG ended up at 1058, instead of 1062, so ABV is 5.91 instead of 6.43, I'm good with that!

Sessionable IPA in the fermenter! Traditionally, we have our first “official” pour of our previous brew during transfer from BK to fermenter, and today... the delicious Vanilla Porter! We hit all of our numbers and finished Brewday in 4.5 hours. Time to kick back and get ready for the NFL. Also... our brew mascot loves catching stray ice cubes during wort chilling.

Brewed the base beer for my Christmas beer, based on Weldwerk's Achromatic Stout. I did an extract brew for this, hit my numbers, 3 gal in the fermentor. Will add cocoa, vanilla, ginger and orange over the next few days. I have to say, it's relaxing brewing extract from time to time, particularly for these small, unusual batches.

The late additions sound delicious
