Hey all, I am brewing a batch of Muntons Mexican cerveza using 1 vial of White labs San Francisco Lager yeast. I did not do a yeast starter. I pitched the yeast when the wort was 61F at 2pm yesterday and there has been no airlock activity. how long should a yeast of that type take to fire up?

lager yeast is very slow and will take twice if not 3 times longer to ferment depending how cold it is, make sure you oxygenate well and just wait, don't depend on the airlock the yeast starts on the bottom and works its way up

I do not brew lagers but from what I have read about brewing lagers you need to make a big starter

all the best

I got a california common going right now, same yeast, did do a starter and it took a little better than 24 hours before I noticed anything. It's not a quick start.

Looks like it is going now. still no bubbling but all the water in the airlock has been pushed up the other side so I do have positive pressure and fermentation going on.
