I’ve just finished making my home brew set up out of some old barrels I was given and want to give everything a good clean before my first run, what would yous recommend ?

I like PBW but I have used lots of oxyclean. Are they soiled?

I thought they were stainless steel but I think they are actually some kind of alloy mix , they are what ever the brewery uses
If they are not rusting they are most likely some type of stainless. Barkeepers Friend is a good cleaner or as mentioned PBW. Maybe somebody from UK will chime in and give you a name brand.

An oxygen based cleaner should do the trick. Oxyclean is just the brand name.

And Barkeepers Friend.

There's a lot of cleaning products that use different sets of the same chemicals. Dishwasher powder has the soaking ingredients. The powdered nappy or laundry bleach type products are also close.

Whatever you use do the following:
  • remove as much dirt/muck as possible
  • add warm solution and soak
  • remove the remaining gunk
  • rinse thouroughly (especially if you've used any of the chlorine related products)
And just to add the hopefully obvious. This is just cleaning. Cleaning is not sanitising. Do both. Don't skip or skimp with either.

How about a trial run with just water? REAL HOT WATER!
