Smack packs

I got one the other day, a chemically-activated cool pack. The Wyeast packs are a breeze by comparison! But the outer packaging is pretty tough - I don't know how hard you'd have to hit one to burst the outer pack. And there's some air in there that can compress and absorb some of the impact - probably why they're so hard to smack!

if I have to use Wyeast , I cut the bag open, pour into my Erlenmeyer fish out the nutrient packs or whatever those are and pour those in also, let that set up all of brew day. no smacking required.

Pretty much what I do. Cut it open. Pour the yeast to my starter wort.

I've used a fair share, just move the inner pack to the corner and give her a good wack right there..... easy cheesy!
I'm gonna use one later today for a plain ol' pale ale kit
